My daughter finally phoned me.....now fairly ok.....I think next time she says 'I'll phone you back' I will just wait again.....

The original A34 went from the Oxford By pass northwards via Stratford U Avon and Brum then Stafford , Newcastle U Lyme into Cheshire and Manchester.
Today A34 runs on what the A43 to Junction 9 of M40 and then M40 to M42 then M6 to Junction 14 then its A34 again.

I travel on the buses allot between Bicester and Oxford ,and the bus goes via Gosford into Oxford using the Banbury Rd.

Good afternoon. Sorry I'm late. Windy but sunny in East Sussex but there are a few grey clouds. The river in Lewes, the Ouse, was very high even at low tide yesterday so did not stay long as the car park is liable to flooding.
Seeing the Ophthalmic surgeon tomorrow so will hopefully find out the best way forward for my 'good eye'. On Tuesday the car has a service and MOT. the first time for me as I changed cars every two years when working as I did some miles covering the country from Glasgow to Bristol. Now only do about 2k a year.

vegas - I do like your silver linings. I will try to remind myself of them when I'm totally cheesed off with the weather.
Alie - I am so glad I now travel by train and won't ever have to brave the A34 again, except for the A34 in Greater Manchester. I often wonder what happened to it between junction 9 on the M40 and where it starts up again in the Midlands near Birmingham. Got lost once trying to trace it.

I get tailgated by lorries on the A34, scary....
.....tell you what, you keep it....I much prefer the small country roads route!

*AllieO" Slightly irrelevant but we have the jolly old A34 up here in Cheshire. It goes from Manchester down to Southampton. I spent many years trundling up and down our bit, to get to work.

Thank God for motorways if you want to get anywhere quickly. However most coaches and taxis near here tend to use the A34 to get to Manchester Airport and the Manchester orbital Motorway M60 instead of going up the nearby M6 as it's far more direct.

anno I am ok, except in the side passage of my house is very wet still - the workmen who replaced my gutters have made it WORSE.

Getting to Oxford can be difficult, the not-A34 roads are mostly flooded.
I don't like the A34.
The garden is very soggy and next door's workmen (the council) have bashed my shed.....

And my daughter didn't phone me for three days - got a text this morning, 'very sorry' - now leaving her to PHONE me!

Apologies..... I am in a state of general irritation!

Grey and drizzly here in Manchester, again, so I have decided to create some internal sunshine by reminding myself of all the benefits of this prolonged spell of poor weather. It doesn't matter if your hair's a mess, as it is standing on end and blown about the minute you step outside. I can continue to wear layers of big, baggy clothing while I pursue my slimming world weight loss, so that when better weather comes I will be able to emerge like a butterfly - well a bit thinner anyway. The windows can be as dirty as they like and the house full of dust and cobwebs as there is no sunshine to show up my slatternly ways. I can plan the perfect summer garden without actually having to do any gardening. And so on ...

I live on relatively high ground here in South Wales so I doubt if I will ever have to worry about flooding. But the downside is that the wind howls across here with a vengeance. Litter, wheely-bins and small animals are all being thrown about with impunity. Roll on Spring!

Good morning all, had trouble accessing Gransnet yesterday, so missed all the news about the weather! We have a blustery morning again and during the night but at least it is not raining for which we should be thankful, I think. A day of not doing a lot - that is getting a habit, but when once the weather brightens we shall make up for it I hope. Enjoy your days.

It's grey, wet and miserable in North Leicestershire today - now there's a change!

Today, I'm going for lunch and to see Dirty Dancing with my girls and, if I'm lucky, I will get to see 4 DGC on the way!! Downside is, I'm doing the driving

Grey and very windy in N-W London. Finished reading the paper. Might go to the cinema to see Dallas Buyers Club later on.
