Preloved is another good one to buy and sell on, I have had a few really nice things from them.
Some of the people with shops also have them on amazon and the postage works out differently, so it's worth checking up first. I'm on 638 now, most of it over the past 6 years so not too bad until you take gumtree, cheapcycle, preloved and amazon into consideration, m'lud!
I have had very few problems, apart from having items withdrawn when I first started, that I had won at very low prices. In two cases the sellers said that the items had been broken. One said that her dog had eaten a leather bag.
They should have set the price higher than 99p if it had worried them that much. One, a beautiful evening coat, refused to reply to me at all, but Ebay have now sorted all of that out, even if it is galling to have to take back the money rather than the beautiful bargain you thought you had won.

Ebay addiction.
(39 Posts)Marelli, I am on 1471, only been on for a few years! It might be an average of one item per day! In case of fraud I have a separate bank account for on line purchases, which I top up as necessary, so there is never a large amount in there. There has only ever been one discrepancy, which Paypal sorted very efficiently. Being a bit 'anal', I write every transaction in a little note book and do a running total of remaining funds.
I feel a bit better after reading the replies, I am not alone!
For selling I tend to use local Gumtree, but people express an interest then don't turn up or make contact, it can be very frustrating! I did manage to sell GCs' rabbits which I had taken on. It was months before they noticed!
my very first order on ebay was a rip off...i did eventually get my money back as i didnt get what the advert stated i would get...i wouldnt bother again i much prefer amazon...
Love ebay. I have just sold several lots of antique and vintage buttons that I inherited from my grandmother 50 years ago and have remained in the button box since. I have also just bought some vintage fabric for a quilt I am making. I have some vintage and antique underwear I have inherited and knitting patterns waiting to be sold
DH has started to haunt local auction sale each month to buy stuff he can then sell profitably on ebay. His unlikely sales have included 78 records, sheet music and meccano.
I'm still scared to buy things on the internet, but am quite happy to phone the companies up and give out my card details over the phone. My problem these days is that I don't go shopping much these days but, when I do I get carried away. Bought two dresses yesterday for a wedding I'm going to, and I'll most likely take them back to the shop. I used to go onto freecycle and had to stop because, instead of decluttering my house I was just taking in stuff that people didn't want. I dread to think what I'd buy if I did use my creditcard on the internet
. Oh, and I buy stupid things from charity shops sometimes, cause I think they're 'bargains'.
I've had some great bargains from Ebay, and buy all sorts of things. The Ebay shops are often very much cheaper than the high street. This month, I've bought 10 metres of Ruflette curtain tape with glider hooks, some new headphones for my radio and iPad, a couple of new mascaras, dog collar and lead and a couple of replacement plates for my dinner set. I like not having to traipse up and down shopping centres to find what I want, when I can choose at my leisure from hundreds of bargains.
Marelli I wonder if you followed a leather jacket I am selling ? it would be hilarious if you where
Annie I also follow local sites from Facebook all close by I have never bought from them but there are some absolute bargains.
I bought the famous "wedding 'at" from e-bay and resold it making a nice profit.
I have a very grumpy postman who repeatedly asks when I am going to tell my family that Xmas is over. [Grin]
I don't see it as an addiction, although my sister does. We have had times of being broke and it has enabled us to keep our son clothed stylishly for pennies, important to a teen. I have replaced broken china for far less than china-searching sites tried to charge, tracked down things I can't find in shops, and if something isn't on eBay then it will be on amazon. Things like magnetic earrings for a friend with MS. I am currently buying up cheap woollen jumpers to make a patchwork throw with for a sofa, I decided that it would be cheaper to buy sweaters and cut them up, than to knit or crochet them myself.
shysal, my problem isn't eBay but sites on Facebook where people advertised things they want rid of, all local, about twenty miles radius of my town, I have joined five, never sell, but do I buy. My latest 'bargain ' is a small sunflower table - I don't like yellow- it's of no use, I have no need for it, I don't like it, I blame the weather for that purchase, rain, wind, dark, and there was this blob of yellow on my iPad so I bought . Will not list other 'bargains' but do ask why anyone who lives alone needs three laundry baskets ?
I'm the opposite as I'm a bit scared of buying stuff online.
I have bought from Next, and M&S, and even (dare I say) Amazon twice, but Ebay and PayPal give me the willies!
As we live in the middle of nowhere I shop a lot online and often on ebay. As you say, it is excellent for those household items that would otherwise involve a drive to town and trekking round a number of shops to find what you need.
I use it for materials for quilting and various other sewing supplies; toys at Christmas; occasionally clothes - and lots more. I also bought the bridesmaids dresses on ebay for my DD's wedding a few years ago - they came from China and were very wacky and very cheap - everyone commented on how unusual they were. And I bought a digital SLR camera from America.
And I am awaiting delivery of a huge bucket of megablocks for my GC to play with when they are here.
shysal and glamma - I have been known to my friends as the Ebay Queen! I have calmed a bit in the past year or so (wonder if GN has fulfilled a need
)?
I have also sold loads of stuff, from things that clutter up the house, then buying more, as well as my clothes - then buying more. I'm sitting at 828 - to Ebay folk, you'll know what that means! Was following a leather jacket the other day, then decided I didn't really need it after all....
.

meet your soul mate I have bought all sorts from e-bay so you are not alone and by the way it is so easy to sell on there just think of all the space you would have and the £s in your bank.
Hello, my name is shysal and I am addicted to buying (never selling) on Ebay.
I hate physically going shopping, but enjoy it on line.
Having mentioned this on another thread this morning, I thought I would ask if it is a common problem, and do I need help? I don't buy luxuries, just the sort of household items we used to be able to find in Woolworths. My purchases during the last few weeks include:
Plug hole traps
Oven gloves
Blank DVDs
Gel pens
Peppermint oil
2Kg dried mealworms
Pudding moulds
Cake decorating supplies
+ dozens more.
I am a bit apprehensive about learning how to to sell on the site (technonumpty), but feel I would be unable to part with much of my clutter in any case.
By the way, this is only light hearted, not really a worry!
