A wonderful moment in time

This past weekend we went to celebrate our two grandsons' joint first and third birthday. Their parents had organised a party on a small steam railway line. After a short trip on the train the children played traditional party games and had a mini buffet in one of the carriages, followed by chocolate cake and ice-cream. This morning before we left for home our eldest GS wanted to be with us for a little longer so we took him out for morning coffee and cake, juice and cake for him. If I could have frozen this wonderful moment in time I would have. We are truly blessed.

I will try to keep these memories in my mind because I realise when the children are older things will be different and perhaps not so heart warming.

Finally as we walked together in the rain my GS looked up at me in my rainhat and said 'you look just like a scarecrow Nan' ! smile

Yes. I remember the times when they were very little. So special and precious.

Those times won't come again. It will be different as they get older, but still good I think. smile

I spoke to my 11 year old GS on the phone and signed off with "Love you Grandma" - a precious moment to be treasured. I know what you mean.

I froze a memory just like this a few months ago. My GS was 4 weeks old, Mum had gone into hospital and I was drafted in as an extra pair of hands. It was 5am, dad, big brother and the cats were all asleep and it was just me and a full, milky baby as I held him upright to burp and we watched the sun rise. I determined to keep that moment treasured.

What a lovely story NanKate. Those moments are wonderful to remember, especially when they get a bit older and mischievous. The days when my little grandsons would hurtle through the house to greet me are gradually changing into a passing 'hi, nana' when I visit, but it's lovely hearing about their friendships and be able to have conversations about WWE wrestling or be tested on my knowledge of the Skylanders action figures (not) grin.

GS1 arrived at school today to find all his friends wanting to know who his valentine is. Mummy had to explain what Valentine's Day is and that you give something to someone you love. "Have you got someone you love?" she asked. "I love you and Daddy" he said smile

When his mum told my DGS that I was going to Slimming World to try and lose some weight, he replied: 'But why is she doing that when she is just perfect?' Oh, if only grin

On Saturday night, just before midnight, there was a knock n the back door, which by then was locked. Went to see, and it was my 19 year old grandson, he was at work, and they were sent home because the water was cut off, he works in the warehouse at Asda, and bless him, he brought us a large bottle of water just in case we were without as well.

I've got a Thomas the Tank engine 'ticket' in my purse given to me when eldest grandson was four. 'Here, nana - I made it 'pecially so you can come too' when I explained I wasn't going on their outing to see Thomas. Melt! smile

One of my favourite memory makers was collecting DG1 then three, from nursery. When the teacher said to her, look who is here to collect you, she turned round and ran towards me shouting 'my granny'! Powerful stuff.

Lovely stories and I've been lucky enough to have a few similar. Wouldn't it be nice if we could bottle them and open the cap when we were feeling a little down ?

Quite ginny.

I delivered DGD2 at nursery and when I went to collect her she squealed 'My ma's come back!' - as if I wouldn't! smile

I like the idea of a memory jar or box, over each put in little reminders of wonderful moments like say tickets for train trip with a photo - printed - not just in digital form - and make into an album to look through with little ones in the future..

Lovely NK we all treasure these moments.

I don't know if I shall treasure this memory or not, but DGS told me a few days ago [rather grandly] that I can live until I am 73. I do hope so, as it isn't all that far off. Probably seems impossibly old to him.grin
