Logging out

I always log out if someone else is using my laptop. That is apart from DH and DD1. They can be sitting next to me, in the case of DD using her own phone or laptop, or DH watching a television programme I can't be bothered with. Then they could easily see my user name at the end of a thread.
Of course that means that I have to be careful what I post.wink

I always log out of everything, as it's a shared computer. As Jingl says, if you don't and someone else is having a look on G'net, then your name will be at top of the message box. This may not matter, or it may well do, depending on what you have posted.

My computer logs me off when I leave the site but have realised that if I double click the log in box the password is there. I must remember to close everything next week when GD is here, she is way too clever on the computer. Last Sunday she showed me a Power point presentation that she had done. GD2 was only two and a half when she sent a text, with photo attached, to my sister shock she was playing with my mobile and sister was top of frequent contacts but even so .. worrying.

I have the same, a little notebook with all sorts of info in it. It's especially useful to take on holiday as I have numbers to contact should anything happen to our cards, medication etc. I keep it safely locked away with our passports. For passwords I also use the 'notes'feature on my ipad, useful to quickly refer to whilst I'm online.

I don't log out on any site apart from my online banking. Like margaretm74, I have a wee notebook with all my passwords in, because I do forget them...and if I'm burgled and someone nabs it and my laptop, then hell mend them! I think they'll be more worried about what on earth has caused me to think of such things....wink!

margaretm74 Wed 12-Feb-14 10:55:00

Good idea. I have them listed in a little book which of course anyone could read! And if they did so they would wonder how my mind works

I don't log out of GN although whenever I do a virus scan Norton logs me out!

As for remembering passwords, as I have different ones for each site I visit I have listed them on a word document and password protected that document - that way I only have to remember one password!

margaretm74 Wed 12-Feb-14 10:48:05

I always log out of everything, except cannot log out of my email a/c on the tab which worries me. I heard of a few people who had their email a/cs hacked and wondered if logging out makes it more difficult. Perhaps GN would know?

Your own progeny can have fun too! DH always forgets to log out of Facebook when DSs are here and finds he has made all sorts of daft comments he didn't know about! Nothing is so much fun as winding up Dad. grin

Galen Wed 12-Feb-14 10:35:55

At 2 1/2 and 3/12. They would be prodigy not progeny!

shysal Wed 12-Feb-14 09:50:53

shock

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 12-Feb-14 09:40:54

The only thing with not logging out is that your usename will always show above the message box. So, if a visitor used your 'puter, they would see it.

AND - if you had really wicked little grand-progeny, they could have a ball on here! grin

I never log out either, go straight to watched threads in my favourites list. It does, however, mean that I never see the home page. This is not a shared computer, so no need in my opinion. Like for others, banking is the only one I sign out of. I did get locked out of an untouched savings account, because I had not logged in for 6 months, but was easily re-instated over the phone. I keep a notebook containing passwords. Anything important is in code which makes sense only to myself.

Elegran Wed 12-Feb-14 09:32:54

You can get your browser to remember your password and use it automatically when you next visit the site. It is not difficult. Then you don't need to remember it.

i don't do that for banking, though, just in case anyone else gets hold of my laptop and clicks on the bank icon link on the screen.

Charleygirl Wed 12-Feb-14 09:26:19

I do not log out of GN because I also do not have a clue what my password is. I do log out of banking for obvious reasons. I ended up buying a small book in which I keep passwords but the GN one has slipped through the net.

A friend of mine, like me cannot remember any passwords so she ends up with different one each time she logs on to a site.

Lona Wed 12-Feb-14 09:14:50

I don't log out of anything either.No-one else uses my pc so it doesn't matter.

kittylester Wed 12-Feb-14 09:14:10

I never log out of anything, apart from banking, but I use my own lap top so no-one else should access anything anyway.

Gally Wed 12-Feb-14 09:09:44

I have never logged out either. Do you think we should?

Bellasnana Wed 12-Feb-14 08:51:29

I never log out as I can never remember my password and have to get another one. Am absolutely hopeless with PIN numbers too.

Brendawymms Wed 12-Feb-14 08:41:19

Never logged out either. I do not log out of most sites I use but many have time expired systems that automatically log you out. I never stay away from Gransnet for anything like that to happen even if it did! grin

Ana Wed 12-Feb-14 08:33:02

I never log out of Gransnet. Makes it easier to come back in!

NanKate Wed 12-Feb-14 08:27:55

Does anyone else forget to Log Out on Gransnet. I usually remember pretty quickly and come back to the site. Are there any consequences of not Logging Out do you think ?
