Can anyone suggest a fool proof way of removing tannin stains from my favourite mug and teapot please?

Hope it works Agus. Otherwise dye them, if they are still good?

Put left over lemons in a bowl with some water and microwave for about 5 minutes, then wipe inside, cleans them a treat

Yes Egyptian percale cotton m74. Also going to try the hottest wash setting and ignore the 60 advice. Years ago always did a boil wash for whites so, back to what I know did work.

I actually thought recently about just buying coloured bed linen now so, if all else fails, that's my option.

Plenty of winter sunshine here but I doubt it would bleach the sheets

DD1 puts leftover squeezed lemons in the dishwasher.

I've tried sliced lemon in the washing machine. Still not white enough but the clothes smelt wonderful grin

I think we need to do a very hot wash every now and again despite what they say about lower temperature washes being as good with certain products. Lower temperatures don't kill bacteria. Are they cotton sheets, agus? If not then 60c should be ok, if they are then you could use the hottest setting every now and again. And hang out in the sunshine - if we ever get any more. Persil non-biological gel capsules seem to work well
Or buy coloured ones (sheets I mean)

Chuck the left over lemon slice from your G&T down the loo at night. It's a natural bleach!

grin

I know - and it didn't even work as well as bleach after I'd got DH to wrench the top off with his trusty pliers. hmm

Toilet duck? There's posh!

Ana Sat 15-Feb-14 22:36:41

I couldn't get the lid off a toilet duck the other day - I was mortified! shock (And I'd only bought it because it was being recommended on here...)

Aka Sat 15-Feb-14 22:34:57

Easy Ana I can't get the childproof lids off bleach bottles.

Agus Sat 15-Feb-14 22:30:37

Will be trying the Milton tablets. Thanks Aka

Ana I soak small white items in diluted bleach OK although I think bleach is a lot weaker than it used to be.

Ana Sat 15-Feb-14 22:29:38

Diluted, of course. Why pay extra for Milton? confused

Ana Sat 15-Feb-14 22:24:16

Bleach.

Aka Sat 15-Feb-14 22:22:08

Milton tablets.

Agus Sat 15-Feb-14 21:56:58

I used to use Milton for terry nappies. Didn't know it was still on the market so I will be buying it to try and get whites white again. Nothing I am using is working. Obviously certain ingredients have been removed from washing powders but I am fed up taking bed linen and towels out of the machine that are not as white as they should be.

Any suggestions or tips would be very welcome.

Oh how life has changed, here I am on a Saturday night asking if anyone has tips on how to get my whites whiter grin

A metal scourer works really well

margaretm74 Fri 14-Feb-14 21:39:19

I was just going to say Milton sterilising fluid, Pogs
Boots own will be cheaper

Ana Fri 14-Feb-14 21:08:53

The same would happen with diluted bleach - at a fraction of the price! grin

POGS Fri 14-Feb-14 21:05:16

Yes. Boots sterilising fluid . You will find it in the baby department. Big blue bottle for about £2

You just need a tiny bit and dilute. You will see it immediately remove stain.
