Jacuzzi baths

I moved into my little house a few weeks ago and tempted my visiting daughter to have a jacuzzi bath - a little bit of luxury that came with the house! ... And something that might be out of bounds for me as I have two bionic knees and although I could get in, could I get out?!?!? Anyway, we ran the bath and horror of horrors all this black stuff was swirling around! Yuck. I asked Mr. Google about it and found out that these baths have to be cleaned out regularly. I don't think the jacuzzi facility could have been used much by the previous occupants!! Anyway, we set to and ran through bleach, dishwash powder, mould remover etc. etc., rinsing through in between each attempt. But after 8 attempts there's still a little bit of gunk coming through!! Any ideas anyone? I need to get it thoroughly cleansed before I'm switched to a water meter next week!

They've been got rid in many holiday let places for that very reason- and as they can harbour and carry disease. I was on the management committee of a holiday resort, and we had to take them all out and replace them with 'normal' baths. Do you know the brand? If so google it and ask they service dpt for advice.

We too inherited one with the house but you almost had to wear earplugs as the noise was incredible, plus if too much bubble bath was put in you could easily loose our three year old. We had it removed. Hope you manage to get it sorted though.

We had one in our previous house and it was lovely but you had to clean it with the tablets provided to keep it fresh. We never had any problems with it and it felt very luxurious. Would I have one again? Probably not. It is a bit of a fillyfaddle.

We took a long term rental on a villa quite a few years ago now,the owner had bought the villa as an investment and it had been empty for a long while we had the same problem the first time we tried the family bathroom,it was like black tar and the smell was horrendious, hubby spent most of the week washing it through with dishwasher powder and bleach but I kept to showers after that first episode. I was also told they harbour terrible germs so sorry not for me.

Not sure if you are still looking for an answer but they need to be cleaned out regularly. I have one and they said when it was fitted it should be cleaned around once a month, depending on how often you use the jets.

You can buy a product from Jacuzzi called J-MX 07 which is a broad spectrum disinfectant and degreaser. You just fill the bath above the jet level and add one capful. Switch the jacuzzi on and let it run for one minute and then drain (or, if you're cynical as I am, let the solution sit in the pipes for a while and run the jets again) the bath. They say there's no need to rinse the pipes though but I always do.

If you are going to use the jets, it is very important that the pipes are kept clean. If it's very noisy, check whether or not it is sitting in a balanced position and that the motor is touching the bath or anything else (which is what happened when mine was first fitted).

I was going to put the link to the Jacuzzi website but the page won't load, just type in Jacuzzi UK and you'll find the product there or visit a shop that sells them. Liquids for a spa bath won't work as they operate on an air based system.

Thank you hollydaze for that information. I'll see if I can get some.
