This all came about due to one receptionist in particular many, many years ago (she has, thankfully, retired). I won't go into details about her antics but some of them left patients very red faced regarding specimens they'd taken in. If patients rang (or went up to) the surgery asking for an emergency appointment, she would insist on being told the nature of the visit before she would decide whether or not you needed an emergency appointment. She was very rude and no amount of speaking to the practice manager made a jot of difference. Eventually, several patients (including me) reported her to Health Services which did not please the GPs because, as said to me, it reflected badly on them. Therefore, if a situation persists, we have been asked to broach the subject with our own GP to see if he/she can resolve it.
I will say that most of the clerical staff are very pleasant and very helpful - but, as with any human gathering, there are always bad apples that let the rest down.
