Loom bands

My 13yr old GD made us 3 matching ones for our narrow boat cruising club. She did this in a matter of minutes, in club colours and slightly bigger for old lady sized wrists!

When we have finished with ours perhaps we could put them all together and make a dress! Any volunteers?

GDs are coming to ours tomorrow goldengirl so I think I will put one round my ankle too

Loom bands are great! As with life there are some risks!

Schools ban too much stuff but tbh it is often parents who cause the problem faffing over a small toy that goes missing. The school where I worked last allowed small toys /games but made it clear they were for playtime only and teacher time would not be used for finding lost toys! Parents had a clear letter explaining our policy and it was great as the kids were busy at playtimes!

DGD made me a couple. One has stretched a bit so I wear it around my ankle!

It's a good thing the school holidays are almost here (already here in Scotland). Perhaps the craze will die out in those six weeks. However, I am told that the daughter of the French family who pitch next to us in France is making loom bracelets as is my GD and another girl whose family will be with us. Can't escape the things anywhere.

My eldest granddaughter was with me yesterday and I noticed she was wearing a couple of these bands made in beautiful pastel shades and she offered to make some for me. We got chatting about them and she showed me that on ebay (I think it was ebay) a woman, who made a dress from these loom bands for her 10 year old daughter has now put the dress up for sale - the bidding, as of 5pm yesterday, stood at £170,000

Jingls, it must have been a huge fad on the continent as well, my French penfriend made me a little thing - don't know what it was - made out of orange and white plastic thread. May still have it somewhere 55 years on!!

I am not sure that the child has lost an eye, iam, I think he has a blood clot in the eye (very unfortunately) and let's hope he is fine in the end.

Accidents will happen; remembering some of the things we played with such as marbles, conkers, stilts, whips and tops, skipping ropes - if they had all been banned because of occasional accidents then we would never have had any fun.

I can remember, way back when Woolworths had counters with girls behind, they used to have coloured plastic "wires" (but no wire inside the plastic). We used to go in with our pocket money and buy different colours, probably a few inches at a time! I can't remember what we actually made out of it but I know we used to plait it.

Quite agree Agus. I'm seeing him today and I shall put my order in.

I can see a problem with these. Rubber bands tend to wither and perish quite quickly and all this wonderful activity will disintegrate.

Not having DGCs old enough I hope this craze will be over when mine is old enough.

When I was at primary school, back in the dark ages, there was a fad for collecting fancy beads "jewels". I remember my form teacher telling me that if I opened the tin in front of him again he would confiscate it.

I do have sympathy for the teachers having to put up with these distractions it must be very irritating.

I have noticed quite a few of our generation wearing these bracelets and it appears to be an ID for those of us who have GC......who else could persuade us to walk around with coloured elastics round our wrists?

A tool belt jingl? I'm sure whatever he comes up with top of the list must be a bracelet for Granny.

Nonu, I don't suppose you'd be making such a snarky comment if the child who lost an eye was one of your own loved ones.

I love the panics whenever children get into something compulsive, and these loom bands fit into every category of fun don't they. Teachers in primary schools tell me they're being driven demented, fidgeting little ones, constantly either making or swopping, or pinging them at each other. Inevitable they'll end up on the 'banned from school' list, which will make them even more exciting.

Yes Agus, you can trust grandaughters to make sensible things. Not too sure what my Gs is going to come up with.

I have one made by 6-year-old DGS and am very proud of it (and him).

I have to go now and work hard to try to add these links into my loom band bracelet.

I have two dil who are teachers, and believe me they work hard!!!

My DGS taught me how to make one on his loom yesterday. I am now proudly sporting a luminous yellow and pink bracelet home made by me

GDs are having great fun with these although I keep finding them all,over the house and garden. I have a few bracelets and rings and DH has a key ring plus one longer band to hang his glasses round his neck. Very fetching.
