Wow, well done rosequartz! I didn't actually expect you to find one! I can now say I'm just taking my anti-inflammatories!
Lovely thread, thanks, cheered me up too. smile

Mrsjamjam - I was told by a practice nurse a couple of years ago that I could 'do with losing a couple of pounds'. I am not overweight really and was lighter then. She was absolutely huge. How I stopped myself from saying something I'll never know.

phoenix thank you so much am in hysterics reading about your mishap - will just pop off and top my glass up wine

geeljay Thu 17-Jul-14 22:47:00

MrsJamJam

In my experience it is the practice nurse (about 30 and thin) who says lose weight

One of our practice nurses (also about 30 and thin) is the exact opposite; on her wall there is a poster that says (something like):

Life Is Not A Journey To the Grave

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO, What a Ride!"

sparkygran Fri 18-Jul-14 19:23:24

I love your "Life is not a journey to the grave" whooooooooooooooope I`ll just and fill another glass

HollyDaze Sat 19-Jul-14 17:08:53

I laughed when I saw her poster sparkygran - she said most patients do. I asked her if she actually believed in what it said and she replied 'I certainly do, you get no brownie points for being the most beautifully preserved corpse'!

She's quite popular with patients, I can't imagine why wink

What a jolly start to the day, to catch up with this thread. I love poster HollyDaze and shall take is as my mantra grin

Oldgreymare Sun 20-Jul-14 09:10:51

I read somewhere that it was healthier to be approaching middle age ( well we are aren't we?????)slightly overweight than underweight. I have continued with that philosophy wink

HollyDaze Sun 20-Jul-14 13:07:04

Me too Iam64 - sometimes it's nice to throw caution to the wind grin

Oldgreymare - given that the expression 'middle aged spread' has been about for eons, I'm also inclined to support you in that philosophy (especially as I have just made a lovely slab of coffee cake that I fully intend to enjoy grin )

Don't you just get sick of being told what to do, how to do it, and how many times?

Well if we have reached the age to be grannies and granddad's can't we be attributed with a little wisdom?

I say 'down with the nanny state' dictatorship and make your own decisions. By all means tell us the latest ideas (I like to be informed) but trust me to make my own informed choices! After all most of us have probably paid enough taxes to our right to the health services we may need at some point and whether we enjoy a glass of the amber-nectar, bar of chocolate or not, we are all likely to need some medical intervention at some point in our lives. Chin chin

Aka Sun 20-Jul-14 21:45:20

I thought that's how it worked anyway Anika.... we are free to make our own choices. What a load of fuss over nothing.

SloeGinny Mon 21-Jul-14 13:44:23

I really don't think that taking all the food advice - no wine or chocolate, sugar is the new poison, butter is toxic, drink only water, no red meat etc - make you live any longer. It just makes life so miserable, it feels that way!

Here's wine and cupcake to you all - enjoy.

sparkygran Mon 21-Jul-14 20:58:58

And here we are all alive and kicking. It`s my birthday today and my advancing years are beautifully captured by my DGD`s hand made birthday card which features a large glass of red wine and Cheers but particularly liked her inscription inside which reads "Have a winetastic 71st birthday" I thought pretty smart for a 10 year old. However what does it say about me I`ll think about that tomorrow!!!!!!!

Ana Mon 21-Jul-14 21:00:30

Happy Birthday, sparkygran! smile winewine

feetlebaum Mon 21-Jul-14 21:30:43

Mine, too! Seventy-bloomin'-seven... I suppose I don't have to believe it if I don't want to...

merlotgran Mon 21-Jul-14 21:34:25

Happy Birthday, sparky and feetle. wine cupcake and more wine
grin

Anika2000 Mon 21-Jul-14 21:36:26

Only offering an opinion Aka......... We do have choices but only to a point! If you smoke (I don't or drink as it happens) you can be refused medical attention. I was defending those to enjoy a glass, or three, if they choose........

Tegan Mon 21-Jul-14 22:09:29

Quote; Birthdays are good for you. Statistics show that the people who have the most live the longest. Happy Birthday you two!

Ana Mon 21-Jul-14 22:34:31

I don't think it's true that if you smoke you can be refused medical attention, Anika2000. Where have you heard that?

geeljay Mon 21-Jul-14 23:38:22

Rioja is quite nice, too. Wine is for the soul, so enjoy!

Iam64 Tue 22-Jul-14 07:57:22

It isn't true that smokers are refused medical treatment, and here's hoping we never see the day when 'lifestyle' choices mean people are refused treatments.
