Whycan't a man be more like a woman?

I was having a moan yesterday - entirely justified, I hasten to add - about DH and a wise friend commented "Why can't a man be more like a woman?" do you remember the similar song from My Fair Lady sung (?) by Rex Harrison?
It got me thinking.........

Why can't a man be more like a girl?
Women are better at coping with stress
A small bar of chocolate, or maybe a dress
But a man with a gripe just moans without stopping
While the women that I know, ....they simply go shopping.
A man's got a headache - just hear how he groans
A woman feels down, she picks up the phone
And rings up a girl friend to chat on for hours
There's no point in hoping that he'll bring her flowers.
While some men have good points and others have uses
Like dealing with spiders, carrying luggage on cruises.
Some know about parking and some about maps
But for most of the rest of the stuff we have APPS
We can all multitask and we don't make a fuss
Oh why can't our menfolk
Be more like US?
grin

Soutra you're a poet, and we all know it!

NanKate Wed 13-Aug-14 18:08:36

Love it Soutra.

I said to my DH recently. 'If anything happens to you I won't marry again as I find old men irritating and annoying and would tell me what to do.'

DH responded 'Just like me'.

'Yes but I have got you sorted after almost 43 years' grin

ODE to Grace (to the same tune and with apologies to Rex Harrison)

Why can't a partner be more like a dog?
When a dog isn't eating, she sleeps like a log
If you leave her for hours, no harsh words are said
She gives you wet kisses, then goes back to bed.
Her clothes don't need ironing, in fact she has none
A quick shake in the morning and her toilet is done
She never is sulky, and never does moan
And all that she needs is a walk and a bone
She won't tell you her problems, doesn't moan how you drive
Just wagging her tail, says she glad she's alive!
She snores and she farts, but her bed is downstairs
She eats the same food every day without cares.
She doesn't much care what I watch on TV
As long as there's room on the sofa for three
A man has his good points but I'm thinking and yet
Oh why can't my DH be more like my pet?

This made me really laugh - I suppose we all have moments when we think along these lines, no matter what sex we are!

My moment has just been and gone - DBH out shopping for bits and bobs, I said I was going to be outside weeding the jungle. But then I remembered that I expected parcels, so decided to wait in for the postman so that he doesn't take them away again, and pay some bills and do some housework instead.

But DBH has just rung to ask what colour I want some outside lamps, and the first thing he said very accusingly was 'Why aren't you outside weeding?'

In which case I wouldn't have been able to answer the phone... confused

I like most men, and most women. I draw the line at bullies in both genders.

Agreed Pompa. I like men too- always feel sad and sorry when women friends are so bitter about the men in their lives- and sometimes taint all men with the same brush too.

I was at a 'women in politics' course recently and we were invited, with partners, at the local government building (the Château, no less) for a conference followed by drinks and buffet. The 2 organisers were having difficulty with the beamer and computer/Power point- and were panicking. As OH is a wizzkid with anything internet/computer, etc- I said I'd ask him to come and have a look and help. They were horrified- and said 'but we can't possible ask a man to help- we are supposed to be equal!' - I really laughed and said 'why not- he happens to be good at that stuff- and none of us can be good at everything. Not because he is a man and we women!!! They were stunned- stupid. He did come and help, and we were all ready in time for the big wigs.

Both men and women have their place in life - (and most men know theirs.)

Vive la difference.

whenim I drink your form of builders brew, too grin Truly disappointed to learn it wasn't beer, though. That's what I drink on my construction jobs blush

MariClaire Mon 04-Aug-14 16:26:27

stansgran I used caulk as a verb there. What I meant was after we screwed in the house siding planks over the studs and insulation, I filled all the spaces between each linear board with caulking material (silicone). Went through cases of it when we remodeled our newish 60 year old rambling ranch house.

Stansgran Mon 04-Aug-14 15:40:25

Mariclaire please tell me what a caulked siding is?

Some of us int'north like it weak as dishwater. Show the teabag to the cup of freshly boiled water and hoik it away quickly before the tannin gets chance to see the cup! grin

Iam64 Mon 04-Aug-14 08:29:17

No, a builders brew is what we drink int'north, all the time grin

Nonu Sun 03-Aug-14 20:41:33

MariClaire Sun 03-Aug-14 20:37:22

I laughed out loud! Very clever Terrafirma1

MariClaire Sun 03-Aug-14 20:34:45

nonu I think I would love a builder's brew, but don't know what it is? If it's a strong beer, count me in. flowers

henetha Sun 03-Aug-14 19:44:53

It certainly made me chuckle, Terrafirma1. And it's quite clever too.
