for stuff like this which, BTW, is superb.

rosequartz Sun 31-Aug-14 09:28:28

Yes, grumpa but does the depth of our thinking make us more, or less, equal?

Is a female deep thinker more equal to a male deep thinker than she is to another female whose depth of thought only broaches the shallows?

MiceElf Sun 31-Aug-14 09:01:06

Just metaphysical solipsism, Grumppa and Galen.

Galen Sun 31-Aug-14 08:54:52

hmm a mite hard grumpa although I do agree.

grumppa Sun 31-Aug-14 08:43:40

micelf, I am afraid cogito ergo sum may mean that some on GN aren't!

whenim64 Sun 31-Aug-14 08:21:56

We all do, MiceElf so why the objections raised on here? Some of us would like to debate from a philosophical stand point and learn more from each other, but it seems others not only don't want to (fine) but don't want others to (not fine). Puzzling.....

Aka Sun 31-Aug-14 07:19:07

Since when have all been equal?

MiceElf Sun 31-Aug-14 06:46:34

Cogito ergo sum. Does that mean that some on GN don't?

Nytsom Sun 31-Aug-14 00:18:11

Good idea,
All men ( women). Are equal; just our views of the world differ.

durhamjen Sat 30-Aug-14 23:48:43

Why would/should they?
I do not think I have read any philosophy with swear words in.
Has anybody else?
If we get the usual f words, is it showing too much emotion to be allowed in a philosophical discussion?

Ana Sat 30-Aug-14 23:31:26

Why on earth wouldn't/shouldn't they? confused

durhamjen Sat 30-Aug-14 23:26:25

Do philosophers swear?

rosequartz Sat 30-Aug-14 23:23:57

That's the end of that philosophical discussion then!

Ana Sat 30-Aug-14 23:18:51

Not really - you could be a grandparent at well under 30.

rosequartz Sat 30-Aug-14 23:16:07

Is Gransnet an ageist concept?

whenim64 Sat 30-Aug-14 22:42:05

We could debate the various forms of censorship - it's pretty active on here! grin

rosequartz Sat 30-Aug-14 22:40:04

Ha ha, sure about the suggestion not about the original subject!
I think it must be the 'silly season'
Or too much white wine (home-made by a friend so organic without sulphites)

Off to the land of nod (or Nod)

thatbags Sat 30-Aug-14 22:35:31

PS Here's a philosophical thing to ponder overnight: no-one has the right not to be offended.

Now, really, toodle-pip. Sweet dreams moon

thatbags Sat 30-Aug-14 22:34:16

The original suggestion was that we have a philosophy forum. So anyone who thinks that's a good idea cannot, at the same time, be "not sure about the original suggestion". Can they? <goes to bed puzzled> moon

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 30-Aug-14 22:01:37

And what the fuck an MP's job has got to do with it, I don't know.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 30-Aug-14 22:00:52

"It could - but people do have a habit of leaving the board and throwing their toys out of the pram if people don't agree with their opinions." (quoting janerowena)

No! People get upset, feel hurt, and go off to lick their wounds for a while.

Different! angry

rosequartz Sat 30-Aug-14 21:57:12

I think it is a good idea too, not sure about the original suggestion.

Eloethan Sat 30-Aug-14 21:54:37

I think it's a great idea to have a philosophy forum. I'm not sure why those who think otherwise are getting so steamed up about the suggestion.

rosequartz Sat 30-Aug-14 21:02:34

Dearest anno could we have a discussion about 'knee-jerk'?

I am assuming you mean the metaphoric sense and not the physical?

My physical reaction is quite reasonable, my metaphorical one could be unpredictable.

With kind regards and warm thoughts

Rose

janerowena Sat 30-Aug-14 20:55:05

It could - but people do have a habit of leaving the board and throwing their toys out of the pram if people don't agree with their opinions.

It (almost) makes me realise how hard an MP's job must be at times.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 30-Aug-14 19:22:14

Actually, I agree with Galen. It could be really amusing.
