Just wondering if Blair is going to come off his pedestal and help with the Labour campaign. Unfortunately, I don't think he or his wife will be much help with campaigning for the NHS:

The Greens did something quite reprehensible recently didn't they? Involved trampling all over a sacred site without permission, or some such.

Enoch Powell would be 102 - if he were still alive. I suppose Farage got a dusty answer.

Same age as my dad then- who died with all his marbles and clear wits about him only 5 years ago- was Farage not in politics then? Not sure when Enoch Powell died though.

So Farage must have been around longer than I thought. Unless he has psychic powers to add to his other talents.

Farage founded UKIP after Masstricht in 93- so there was plenty of time for him to contact Powell and ask for support and for it to be turned down.

It was 20 years ago that NF approached Enoch Powell asking for his support - long after Powell had retired from active politics.

And it was support for his stance against the EU he was requesting, nothing to do with immigration.

Quite a long time, then.

Perhaps Enoch Powell preferred to stay out of the limelight in his latter years.

Only just looked at the OP - normally I'd have love someone to make mincemeat of Russell Brand, but would devoutly have wished that Farage was minced!

Farage appeals to the easily swayed and politically naive and manipulates them; Brand is obnoxious but intelligent and, surprisingly, thoughtful. Simple.

And the converse could be true.

Intelligent is not an adjective I would apply to Brand

Intelligence is the ability to learn, understand and make judgements or have opinions that are based on reason, so intelligent = able to learn and understand things easily

Rather I would describe him as a smart arse whose mind is all over the place.
Smart has a different meaning to intelligent.
However, Brand does appeal to the easily swayed and politically naive and manipulates them.

Oh dear, I didn't mean to be personal - just generalising, as one does in most debates. Sorry to have hit a sore spot.

It is sometimes hard to be as tactful as one should, if one is to say what one thinks. But, nevertheless, apologies to the 5 or so whom I may have inadvertently offended.

Although I do think that Boris is seriously intelligent under all that buffoonery.
Brand sounds to me as if he needs taking back to factory settings and re-programming.

I am so reminded of the voter in Feckless Reckless's constituency who was quoted as saying "This time I am voting UKIP as the last bu**er was blankety blank useless"

They could pick up a lot of votes that way as a lot of them are blankety blank useless!
