Bet the horseradish spiced things up a bit merlotgran will you eat said foodstuff or throw it. my husband does he reckons it's because he comes from a poor background that means he can't abide to waste food. He ate 3/4 of black forest gateau last evening.

I give you a jar of Apple fig and ginger jam, delicious with cold meats apparently. Not only forgotten this year but also forgotten last year. Discovered by DS whilst on a quest for a pot of horseradish which I was sure I had. I did but sadly it was twelve months out of date. Note to self...clear your cupboards out occasionally!!

I have one lonely yorkshire pudding which I do not think goes well with tonight's meal of fish. Still, if that is the only wastage I have done well.

I will enjoy investigating some different recipes for goats cheese.

I will ration the doggy selection box treats - should keep them going for ages and the candles will make useful presents next Christmas

A pineapple & a melon which where not used xmas day,was for posh starter but everyone decided they wanted a soup or stuffed mushroom will have to use this week-end,it's quite a large melon so we will be having for starters and possibly for desserts,we will certainly be getting our 5 a day won't we.

In my knicker drawer is a Christmas card for Dh which I bought 3 years ago, put in a safe place so had to buy another one. I found it just after Christmas put it in said drawer but I keep forgetting about it!

Tubes of smarties for DGSs

You name it I have it in my fridge uneaten. These last two days we have been having brunch then snacking on tasty nibbles that were bought for Christmas day but were left because everybody was too full after lunch.

My (shop bought) Christmas pudding is still in the box and when I checked the sell by date it is 2016 so I have about 14 months before I eventually throw it out.

When DGS had finished opening his presents I realised several were missing, one of which was the Jack in the box which was the only thing he'd actually asked for. A quick search found them on top,of a wardrobe, so I furtively took them outside then came noisily in saying "Those silly reindeer, look what they dropped off the roof". Luckily aged four he was convinced. The only problem was that he kept asking to go in the garden to see if there were any more dropped off.

I am sure that anything with sugar or vinegar in an unopened jar which has not 'popped' would be fine to eat, such as your jam, 'Juliette'. It advises 'best before' so the worst thing is that it could have gone a bit sugary.

DGD2's main Christmas present - she didn't notice! Something new to play with when she comes to our house.

I have now found a pair of cuff links I bought for DH months ago and forgot. (Made from sixpences from his year of birth.) It is his birthday in February so he will have them then.

¾ of a huge chocolate cake wich I thought they would all love and did but "only a small piece please I'm too full to eat any more" was what they all said. So we are gradually working out way through it...for breakfast...lunch..and dinner. One more day should see it gone

Why oh why do we turn ourselves into human dustbins after Christmas? I keep looking at all the foil packages in the fridge that contain roast gammon, beef,turkey, pate, brie, goats cheese and smelly stilton not to mention two salad drawers full of stuff!!

We had ham, egg and chips tonight - that's a few more slices gone

I bought a half priced Xmas cake from Marks and Sparks today. Why did I do that?! (It is one that came out very high in taste tests online)

We have got mostly the full-fat cheeses left now. And mince pies in the freezer.

No cooking being done today. We are just eating anything and everything our hands alight on.

Just had a delicious home made pie for dinner. Puff pastry and filled with remains of chicken, some of the gammon, all stirred into a tin of condensed chicken soup. Also finished the carrots and leeks and the sprouts that nobody likes ( grated them and steamed them with the sliced leeks!). Only stinky cheese and a few chocolates left.....

All the cheeses and all the garnishes were left in the garage where I'd put them in readiness for packing the car. DH carefully locked the garage before we set off and I foolishly assumed that he had packed them in the boot. After frantically searching we had to go off and buy again. Booths in Windermere is a wonderful shop thank Goodness. And a wonderful neighbour who found the keys and froze everything and stored the cheeses.
