dyson handheld

Just got a dyson handheld last night, super for stairs-no flex for tripping over, will do my whole living room but takes longer than the big animal dyson. It did my bedrooms no probs. It is ideal for a second vac, to supplement the larger one, it gets up to the skirting board which the big one doesn't do and gets into the corners of sofa to get crumbs which my dgd drops. I love my 'baby' dyson.

I also have the rechargeable Dyson and find it invaluable. There isn't a corner it won't tackle. I also have the early model GTech floor sweeper and, having read comments on the GTech vacuum cleaner, I'm quite sorry that I bought the Dyson before the GTech came on the market.

ethel we have a big, heavy original dyson upstairs, a cylinder dyson downstairs, the handheld one and a vax which is in the garage (bought for shampooing carpets but not much use for that purpose so used on the car now).
Can't move house, we have too much stuff

But no cats and no longer any dogs, so I don't know about pet hairs.

Oh, I forgot - perfect for cleaning under the table when the DGC have been!

Con - expensive

Pros - wonderful for daily use for picking up around the kitchen and laminate/wood floors
Great for using on the stairs - no more backbreaking hauling of a larger cleaner up and down. I have the larger head for this

No lead so I can whiz round quickly and don't have to keep unplugging

Mine has two settings - normal and maximum and normal lasts quite a long time but is still very powerful.

It doesn't replace the larger vacuum cleaners but I don't get those out so often.

We bought ours in Curry's when they had an offer on attachments.

I have the GTech RAM vacuum, and it is superb! (I already have the carpet sweeper one) So I am definitely going to buy their hand held one.

Neither I nor my cleaner have used the big VAX (similar to the big Dyson) since I bought the GTech RAM. J prefers to go round the edges with a damp cloth - but then she is agile enough to kneel down! She thinks it is one of the best she has come across.

My handheld Dyson Animal is perfect for stairs, skirtings etc. My black and white cat sleeps on the stairs, so I find the animal attachment very efficient. My only complaint is the short battery life.

Lightweight compared to a mains vac. Mrs P found it difficult to carry her mains vac up stairs and to clean the stairs. DC59 has solved all the problems, Henry is now redundant, and I use it in the workshop.

Bit worried about the weight comments. They say lightweight but that that is relative, sometimes, to the user.

ethelbags I find it easier to cover my 2 armchairs with washable covers which dry quickly. I think I bought them at Dunelm Mill. My cat knows she is not allowed on the sofa so it is clear of cat hairs.

I have an animal too but its so heavy and cumbersome and really doesn't take up the hairs from my white boy. However I need a handheld to do my stairs as neither the animal or the small dco4 will reach all the way up the stairs. will I be able to do the stairs with a handheld, I also have a tabby girl cat and she sleeps on the stairs with loads of black hair all over. Also I need something to do my sofa, when I got my cats I had a leather sofa - no problem with hair but I now have a cloth sofa and chair and they are thick with hair the animal dyson is too heavy to lift onto the sofa. The handheld will be a big investment for me so I welcome any advice as to if it will work for me.
Am I sad having a small 3 bed semi and having 3 vacuum cleaners.

Thank you all. Just bought the "Animal" for £179; well pleased.

I've just got the little GTECH....to match my bigger one. Its brill.......empties easily and holds a decent charge.....has two led lights so you can really see all those cobwebs etc up in tight corners....am finding all sorts I had no idea were there.

I use the Dyson DC59 Cordless which is ideal for us and it is on offer at the moment at Argos reduced by £50.00 you may as pompa says get it cheaper from Dyson direct ours just hangs on the kitchen wall next to the plug so it takes up no space at all.

jo1book I completely agree with pompa. I would recommend the Dyson DC 59 Animal too. I've had mine for two years after winning one in a Gransnet competition - to tell the truth I would never have considered buying one, but now I wouldn't be without it because it really is better by far than any other vacuum cleaner I've had. When this one bites the dust (no pun intended) I shall definitely buy another.

I gave one to my husband a couple of years ago and he loves it for cleaning the car. Me now I've started using it in the house for small areas and it saves me hauling the larger Dyson out the cupboard. I too love the hand held version it is a powerful wee tool. Be aware though there is a short battery life however that's no problem, you could always leave it plugged in behind the couch.

brilliant - would not be without it - perfect for cleaning up small areas. Would go for the DC58 - longest battery life.

Check prices direct from Dyson, they are often cheaper.

We also have the Dyson DC 59 Animal, Mrs P loves it, never uses her mains cleaner now, charge last long enough to clean either upstairs or down, not both, so she just splits it over different days, or waits for it to re-charge.
