I don't find the books of the wonderful and sadly late Terry Pratchett nerdy or men's books at all. They are inventive and beautifully written. He had a wonderful grasp of the human condition and a brilliant way with words. It's very sad that there will be no more to enjoy.

Terry Pratchet is a national treasure. Can I dress up as him? He has the best hat.

PS can't BEAR Catherine Cookson-type books.

I like fantasy books, chicklit, anything with a good murder in it, travel books, books by eastern authors so I can try to understand how other peoples' minds work, travel books, self-sufficiency books, gardening books, science fiction, I read so many historical novels when I was younger that I cannot face another one. Biographies, autobiographies, most of all the classics, and have a sneaking liking for good childrens books.

You can't pigeonhole people to just like one genre, very few people are like that!

My son enjoys the Terry Pratchett books.

I did try one. I didn't mean to criticise anyone. I simply think women more often like books about real people. I think a lot of men like fantasy books. That's fine. Of course, I was only speaking very generally.

Have you actually read any Terry Pratchett books, jingl? If not, why don't you give them a try before criticising those of us who are obviously men in drag? (With the honourable exception of pompa of course.)

I would like to be Evelyn Greenslade from "These Foolish Things" by Deborah Moggach. (A superb book, BTW) Of course, the only reason I'd want to dress up as her is because I could pretend to be Judi Dench, who played her in the film of the book......

GA, you have just reminded me of a film I loved and I do agree with you. She was a wonderful character. By the time the film ended, I had almost persuaded myself that I understood Danish.

I love Nanny Ogg, but still think I would prefer to be the teller of the Arabian nights. Except I think I would have to wear some kind of warming cloth around my tummy. And those slippers would need to be made by Hotter. I would have to wear leggings under my diaphanous trousers too. And maybe a nice cashmere stole... Those jewelled bra tops are probably a bit draughty.
