Weird?

It's a scam. They fake your number on the caller ID and hope that you will be intrigued enough to call them back. Maybe their real number is a premium one where they can make money out of the calls they receive?

According to the BT website, if you have Call Minder or BT Answer enhanced, it will call you back every ten minutes for up to an hour to let you know that you have a message. Therefore, the number on 1471 will be your own number.

Beat me to it Ana. So try 1571 if you have it! It happens if someone rang and left a message when you were on the phone.

I googled it. Other people have been bamboozled by it. The advice is NOT to ring back.

Yes, I did get a message!
But it's never done that before.

It spooked me a bit, I was thinking 'glad I didn't answer that one!' I might have found I was talking to myself.......eek.

(I did think of a scam, but I couldn't think how it could work.)

I have had that happen to me a few times, the dialled number shows as my landline. I never answer the phone so it is not a problem.

Stupid question.....

If 1471 gives your number, how do you know what number to dial to call them back ?
I wouldn't call, just can't understand how you could.

I think 1571 is a really good system and it allows you to have Caller Display too! It works for us!
