Soop's Kindly Kitcheners

Good morning - I've made a pot of tea and toasted some warburtons toastie bread, lathered it with butter and there's a pot of blackcurrent jam, or good marmalade for those who prefer it.
Soop I do have some paracetemol here should that be necessary …...

Just got back from the pub myself, could be me snoring before long.

soop you may have what you like to drink provided that that you are not too sozzled to care for Rory in the manner to which he has become accustomed. It is chicken for him this evening, I believe.

I still have not recovered from reading that you did over 3 hours of ironing for a friend earlier this week. That to me is above and beyond the call of duty. Enjoy the rest of the evening- I am going to keep that pompa in check- it will be tea or coffee for him, he can get the idea of a party out of his head.

Well hello there...we've been celebrating with our pals and "the gang" since midday and, to be perfectly truthful, I'm sizzled/sozzled. Champagne and a vintage malt have done all manner of silly things to my head. Do I need to apologise? Heck as like, no! You lot understand that, from time to time, I'm a little beyond being "with it"....which is what I am just now. I really do love you. However, at this moment, I feel that I should recline on the chaise and take deep, meaningful breaths. By gum, I'm ever so slightly sloshed.

Pompa!

I've been reading up on it, I shall try her with some of my chicken feed. Why couldn't she have laid in the back garden - we have two ponds! The RSPB site says to leave some drinking water, and cooked potato - but I'm worried about that attracting rats. I'm delighted that she is here we often get ducks swimming on the ponds, and they probably do lay in our back garden but we wouldn't notice. However, right by the front door in a bad that was about to be demolished is another matter! She could be a month or two.

how very exciting, we have our own duck nesting close to the kitchen. Galen is absolutely right, so we won't give her any bread. I picked up some duck food at our local reservoir shop so she can have that.

I'm informed ( by darling daughter,) that bread is bad for them grain is ok!

Croissants perhaps, looby? Maybe they know that breadcrumbs are sometimes an ingredient of stuffing!

In a local village there are signs warning drivers of 'Ducks crossing', several of whom like sunbathing in the middle of the road on a blind bend

The village is very posh and the ducks refuse to eat bread!

Driving down a busy road towards Wilmslow, my friend and I had to stop for a duck leading her brood across the road. Buses, HGVs and all other traffic came to a halt until they were safe.

Did you see a news video a few years ago of ducklings launching themselves off a balcony onto the pavement below? Mother had gone down first and was calling them. A passerby caught them one by one as they decended (flew would not be the word) and deposited them on the ground.

When farming we had a duck nest in the top of the Dutch barn, on top of hay bales and at least 30' off the ground with no food/water at all.

DH bought duck feed and left it some distance away but she didn't eat it.
Somehow she and 7 ducklings survived - it was heart stopping watching the little ones launch themselves to the ground.
RSPCA told us to leave them alone, and all went well.

There's a Facebook film somewhere of a duck who laid eggs high up in a tree.....clearly they're not the brightest of creatures

Many of these I picked up picked last summer, when getting involved in a project run by a Chester theatre who were doing a WW1 commemoration events at various railway station venues around Cheshire. Great fun and very moving. I wasn't actually about at the time.
