Elegran - might we be allowed to both drop a letter or letters (say max 2) in addition to adding one? I've been staring at latest excellent contribution but can't see a way of changing it by just shuffling and adding or subtracting once.). But maybe someone can still come up with something ??

I've searched internet anagram sites - one gave the only anagram of murderous as ..... murderous. It also had an option for finding words within the word (i.e. using some of the letters). Nothing for one dropped letter except some rather questionable non-words (IMO). So I think Grandma2213 takes the crown for this one

Should we have a restart?

People already seem to be sometimes doing more than one move at a time, so why not? And if it is still completely impossible after a reasonable time, then a restart (using a few of the letters in the last word?) is a last resort. but give it a fair try before restarting.

Although strictly speaking 'murmured' wasn't correct as it added a 'u' and subtracted an 's'!

Ana 'murmured' was a valid submission on the basis of changing a letter (changing the s to u) which is allowed according to the OP.
