thank you very much,im sorry I asked twice but my pc said I hadn't asked so I posted again no marriage in the air just my grandson met my cousins grandson at school and asked what would there relationship be thank you once again

Not third cousins because they are not on the same rung of the ladder. That is where the removed comes in.

I think they are third cousins or second cousins once removed. They are certainly still related because as in my family we all come from my grandparents.

The church used to say that consanguinity (cousin relationship) was a bar to marriage but I'm fairly sure there is no law in this country against cousins marrying.

I've been watching Heir Hunters and it's interesting how inheritance goes to goes to cousins quite a lot removed if there are no siblings or children to inherit.

If you draw the family tree, and count up until you reach the nearest common ancestor ((your grandmother/grandfather) you get three generations from there to your chldren and your cousins's children, which makes them second cousins. Your cousins children are one remove from that - an extra generation.

When your cousin's children have their own children, there will be four generations from them to the nearest common ancestor, which will make them third cousins - equal generations with your grandchildren.

Wouldn't my cousin's child be be my child's second cousin, making my child's offspring, I.e. My grandchild, second cousin once removed? Tho I am not sure about this !

I think twice removed, once removed would be your children. Don't quote me though!
