SOOP's kindly Kitcheners

This is another thing I should have put in the" I confess" thread, I have a lovely pink flowery walking sticK which I bought a few months ago when my knees and one hip were very painful. I will not use it. How vain and silly is that? I have recently turned 78 and when I see you soop always beautifully" turned out" and so youthful looking I am ashaamed of my vanity. There have been days when I couldn't walk 50 yards so I really am stupid.

ann60 my knees were so dreadful a couple of weeks ago that I bought myself a smart black and white folding walking stick!
I haven't used it because I discovered that if I stopped eating Hovis bread, my knees were almost normal!

I'm sure it will come in useful eventually!

soop I think your trainers look great!

ann at present I use one crutch or sometimes 2 to get around and I really do not care.

Lona I eat Warburtons Wholemeal.I will leave it off and see how I go.

annsixty Use your flowery walking stick with pride. It is there to help you. I had to use my stick at my granddaughter's wedding. I was tempted to tie a large tartan bow around it.

Back to that Mary Cameron song that I hunted high and low for yesterday. It helps to have the correct title. I was looking for Mary's version of The Road and the Miles to Dundee. Silly sausage. I meant to look for Mary's version of Dumbarton's Drums...which I found on You tube. I could share on FB but didn't know how to do so on Gransnet. I'm not very savvy when it comes to such things. Yet another senior moment.

Lona My son treated to a pair of the same type of shoes last year. Those are in a lovely shade of pink. They are really comfortable. It's like walking on air.

Sadly it looks like my DGS and his parents are moving to northern Switzerland by the new year if new jobs pan out. I'm ridiculously sad about it and trying desperately to be upbeat and buoyant but it'll mean very unlikely the great grandparents (89 & 91) will ever see them again and it's very expensive to travel out there. Aren't being I silly, the daftest thing is making me

At least we've finally agreed on a holiday to the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales in mid-September , can't wait, just need decent weather.....?

I have a fancy walking stick which I haven't used, because I also have a more sporty looking telescopic stick, like a hiking pole, but with a walking stick handle. A good bargain from Craghoppers. I can't tell you how many times my son had to go back and collect it from the various places where I left it behind on our visit to Rome last winter.

Do you like my favourite melancholic song, "The Dark Island". I used to look after a young man who was a sometime patient on the male acute ward in the mental hospital where I trained. He always brought his accordion with him and played this tune, and he was very good. I like the words, and can imagine the little boat passing Tired.
Fab trainers soop. I do like colourful footwear. Recently I bought a pair of red " hotters*.

Hello to all the kindly kitcheners. Just had a rare day off + have spent the afternoon reading all your posts. Reads like a mini novel ! I couldn't put it down. Full of ups + downs. Loved the bits with scottish songs. My grandfather loved the Corries. He played the accordion. As a child I loved when played 'Donald where's yur troosers?'. When my father passed away this spring , we had a piper (buried in england). He played plenty of much loved scottish songs. Also his favourite Burns poem ' My love is like a red red rose'. I was very tempted to have ' I belong to Glasgow' but chickend out. Keep up the good work kitcheners!

Although we live in Kintyre, I was born and raised in Northamptonshire. Please believe that all the home-baked and glasses of are calorie-free in our kitchen. Or so we tell ourselves

Loopylou You most certainly are NOT being silly. I can well imagine how you are hurting inside. Put your feelings into words and if the family do move maybe you can give them a wee keepsake together with your message. Surely, the family will be able to visit you from time to time.(((hugs)))

hilda I also like the song 'Dark Island' it is very moving. I also love the accordion. It is the perfect instrument for Scottish tunes. Your trainers are lovely. 'Hotter' shoes are first class. I always enjoy looking through the brochure that arrives through the post from time to time.

Cherrytree We were in Campbeltown today. It has had a face-lift and we wish like the "wee toon" a lot. The song is one of my husband's (*MacSporran*) favourites. Our Friday treat is to enjoy coffee and bite to eat at the fairly-newly refurbished Royal Hotel. It has such a lovely, friendly atmosphere. is something that we have had to forego, as the drink drive laws are very tough in Scotland. We therefore treat ourselves to a wee dram this evening. Well worth waiting for.

We have been to the village art show. A marvellous, vast (8' x 4') model train set was being sold. I LOVED it. I would have snapped it up had I the cash, somewhere to keep it, and the means whereby I could have transported it to our grandson, Torben. I really needed a wide lens in order to take the best images. Here is but a wee taster.

When my FIL died Hubby's mum gave away his much loved train set, never offered it to hubby.

She hated him having his hobby and just wanted shot of it.

Fabulous train set [soop]. DH would love it,he had one when his children were growing up, but when he and his ex wife split up he left it and sold it with the house. We have no room for one but he has bought himself a Lego train set, or rather a starter pack of one and always asks for track for his birthday. We have to put it away as it can't be a permanent fixture, he says it's a project for him and the Grandchildren, but everyone knows it's really his

POGS The wife of the man who had built up this and other railway projects, snatched at the asking price and doubled it...she said that after he had worked with it for the best part of a few years, it could not be sold for a pittance. I have to say that I agreed with her.

Grannyeggs My husband always wanted something like this set. For a moment, he toyed with the idea of selling his piano. Even so, there would be no space large enough to house the railway. Such a pity.

soop I just can't imagine why anyone would want to part with that , it is wonderful. We can't see the condition of course but the photographs are lovely, it must have taken years to put it together.

It would be ideal for a floored loft and could sit there permanently provided of course that one could go up and down a normal loft ladder. The railway set looks superb.

annsixty I took about a dozen photos. Honest to goodness, if this hasn't sold by the close of day...I shall eat my hat (not the best one!)

Charleygirl we do have a very roomy loft. Only trouble is...I am unable to climb down the ladder. I can climb up...but as I back out of the hatch I find it very tricky, nay, down-right dangerous, to get my funny leg in the right position for planting a foot on the top rung. Old age is a right bummer.

What's more, I would only enjoy playing with set, providing Torben could join me.
