Galen no tennis! I'm on my way, budge up grin

Charleygirl Sat 11-Jul-15 16:30:39

For a split second I thought that Garbine may upset the applecart and for once it did not go all of Serena's way- an excellent match.

I have thought at times, not necessarily today, that the commentators should stop having their private conservations and end talk when a match restarts.

Lona Sat 11-Jul-15 15:46:02

That was another 'edge of the seat' match, so well played by Garbine, and Serena is very gracious.

Lona Sat 11-Jul-15 15:39:00

Ooh anno how could you even think such a thing? wink

annodomini Sat 11-Jul-15 14:53:45

Sue Barker looks so much older when she's presenting at Wimbledon than she does on 'A Question of Sport'. The make-up department does a good job for the latter! Or has the Botox just worn off?

Lona Sat 11-Jul-15 14:46:31

John MacEnroe is very knowledgeable about tennis without doubt, but he has verbal diarrhoea unfortunately! IMO.

annodomini Sat 11-Jul-15 13:48:28

Andy Roddick is a welcome contrast to John MacEnroe. His comments are thoughtful whereas Mac sounds - and often is - opinionated.

soop Sat 11-Jul-15 13:01:54

Tegan He was a star. A lovely, humble man. I also loved Pete Sampras. One of my other favourites is Andy Roddick. He was commentating on a recent match. He has such a friendly disposition and pleasant sense of humour.

Tegan Sat 11-Jul-15 12:32:07

Did anyone watch the documentary about Arthur Ashe that's been repeated recently? What a remarkable man he was; everyone who spoke about him adored and respected him so much [and quite rightly so]. He said that, with all the trials and tribulations oh his life [heart attacks, Aids] the biggest problem he always faced was just 'being black' even when he was famous sad. Truly a man years ahead of his time.

soop Sat 11-Jul-15 12:14:35

Phew! The match was truly well played by both contestants. Roger is just too good. I shall now support him against Novak. As for the ladies...I would like the Spanish newcomer to lift the trophy. Also, of course, Jamie's double final is later today. I wish him all the best.

Galen Hi! High! I shall be the first to welcome you when you've had enough cruising in the stratosphere. grin

NellieM Don't overdo things in the garden.

About to sup my coffee. The sun isn't wearing his hat today. Do any Kitcheners remember the song...'The sun has got his hat on'? I shall not be able to get the tune out of my head for the rest of the day. hmm

loopylou Sat 11-Jul-15 09:56:45

brew & cupcake Nelliemoser!
I know just what bl...y hard work that entails, and trying to get the resin off my hands, clothes, car etc hmm

<halo> for you indeed!

Nelliemoser Sat 11-Jul-15 08:01:34

And all the time you lot were watching tennis yesterday, I have been loading up my car and taking three loads of leylandii branches to the tip.
There is a big pile pile still on the lawn and still more for OH to cut down when he not out today brass banding.
Smug hard working granny look. And my poor thumbs are aching.
A Halo emoticon needed.

loopylou Sat 11-Jul-15 07:05:17

It's certainly one way (albeit somewhat drastic) to avoid Wimbledon Galen! I never imagined soop would exile you!

I bet it's blissfully peaceful up there too, and I've often wondered what weightlessness is like......

I'm not an aficionado either but DH was watching it yesterday when I got home from work, and not being a Murray fan (ducks behind sofa)........

I hope you're not getting lonely up there hmm?

Galen Fri 10-Jul-15 22:32:34

It's heaven! No tennis!

Tegan Fri 10-Jul-15 21:35:01

I couldn't watch it. I needed to go out anyway; I stuck it out till it was 5 games all in the second set and Andy was still in with a chance but I couldn't bear to watch any more.No matter how well he played Federer was playing that bit better. I may try to watch it on catchup now that it's over, just to see tennis at it's very best.

Crafting Fri 10-Jul-15 21:02:50

Oh my goodness. Galen I'm the only one concerned about your plight. Everyone else is watching the tennis hmm Are you ok up there? You won't be hungry as I sent up two roastchicken. Here's some wine to keep you going. However are we going to get you back?
P.S. What's the tennis like up there?

Lona Fri 10-Jul-15 19:56:58

I'm afraid I'm not very keen on Novak, he's just a bit too smug, and taking his bad temper out on the ball girls/boys is just not acceptable. So I'm definitely rooting for Roger, never seen him throw a hissy fit!

Galen Fri 10-Jul-15 19:44:17

Still in orbit! Very pretty

ffinnochio Fri 10-Jul-15 19:11:57

Superb match! tennis

whenim64 Fri 10-Jul-15 19:09:58

I so wanted that match to go to five sets, just for the sheer joy of watching them both at their best. Federer is my all-time favourite so I'd like him to take the championship. I don't want it to end, either.

annodomini Fri 10-Jul-15 19:05:45

I back Federer to beat Djokovic on Sunday but it's sure to be a great match. On Monday I will have withdrawal symptoms as usual. And that won't, this year, involve Magnums or any equivalent! hmm

Lona Fri 10-Jul-15 18:26:25

I'm gobsmacked!! I've never seen Roger, or anyone, play such incredible tennis! Poor Andy, he played brilliantly and got nowhere!

loopylou Fri 10-Jul-15 18:26:16

YES!!
Brilliant match, Federer definitely on top form grin

sorry Murray fans ......l.l

Lona Fri 10-Jul-15 18:20:37

WITS!!!!

Lona Fri 10-Jul-15 18:20:19

Come on Andy! He must be at his wife end!
