I could really do with one, maybe I shall make myself a Pimm's...

It's 29C here and a beautiful day. I have done lots of weeding but had to wear a hat because I nearly gave myself sunstroke. DBH still up and down, he is worrying about a big family wedding next week, the niece who had the brain tumour removed has managed to stay well enough to get married this year! They have had to cancel the past two years. That day is also my DM's 80th birthday so we are all sad that they won't/can't be there.

However DBH has had a reasonably good day today with no need for an afternoon sleep, he is also going to cook dinner, so I am going to make myself that Pimm's I think!

Pimms for Mrs P. G&T for me (maybe more than one)

I did have that Pimms, we had a wonderful meal and a lovely evening. It was so warm that we were able to read our books outside until 9pm before we had to fetch pullovers. Really unusual after mid August, we normally have to light the outdoor stove and fetch throws.

What a grizzly, grey morning here , such a change from yesterday.

I've just finished clearing out the cubbyhole under the stairs, feeling very virtuous. I read a decluttering book by Marie Kondo and there's no stopping me now . I've done my clothes (5 big black bags gone to charity shop), which has freed up 5 drawers in a chest of drawers. I even dragged everything out of the airing cupboard and from under the bed - I'm ashamed of how big a stash of toiletries I own.....

Kondoing is becoming almost addictive, I think I deserve a G&T later

Got up early to go to archery. When I got there it had been cancelled due to the appalling weather. We have torrential rain here!

janer Your niece must be an amazing lady. I hope that the wedding day is a joyful celebration and that your husband feels in the mood to relax and enjoy the occasion. Your mother would love a few photographs. No doubt you will have a camera at the ready.

loopylou Having a proper declutter never fails to please me. Having read your post, I feel inclined to sort through my cupboards. Your enthusiasm is contagious.

pompa A tall glass of freshly chilled Pimms is my number one choice of alcoholic beverage on a sunny day. Pity we haven't any in the cupboard. I may have a weeny G&T later. I'm supposed to "avoid alcohol" when taking the tablets.

Galen I bet your language was jolly colourful when you discovered archery class had been cancelled. How inconsiderate of the weather.

Last evening's sky was several shades of grey (to begin with)...after which, I could barely believe my eyes. Gradually the grey turned to gold and that turned to the most incredible scarlet. I took many photographs. It was difficult to choose those that I wished to share with you.

They look more like paintings than photos - almost surreal, very beautiful.

janer MacSporran admitted that by the end of the evening, the sunset could hardly be bettered. The walls of our sitting room were rosy pink. These images have had NO retouching. This is how it was. Amazing!

When we lived in Lincolnshire we lived on the top of a very steep hill (yes they do exist in Lincs!) and had a huge bay window that faced West. Every evening I could, I would sit there in a rocking chair with a glass of wine or mug of tea and watch the sunset. I miss that moment of calm more than anything, we no longer have a good view westwards at all.

janer Lincolnshire is a beautiful county. I can visualise you in your rocking chair, in hand and appreciating the beauty of a marvellous sunset. Very therapeutic.

Not sure if I am gate-crashing this thread but caught the post from Janerowena about her Lincolnshire sunset and had to join in. We live half way up a hill in Lincolnshire and are west facing at the back. Some lovely sunsets, really uplifting.

Hello Nandalot you are most certainly not gate-crashing. The more Kitcheners we have to share news with is a bonus. I'm afaraid that I may bore my friends with far too many sunsets. Since we moved to the west coast of Scotland I have taken hundreds of images. The thing is, they are all different. We have grey sunsets, pale gold sunsets, rosy pink and vivid crimson sunsets. I'm about to close down the computer...needs must. Before I do, here is another of last night's images for you to enjoy.

I never find sunsets boring - just miss them!

Nandalot the wideness of the view makes a big difference, doesn't it. Huge trees in Lincs obscuring the view are fairly rare. We were at the edge of the Wolds, near Horncastle.

Janerowena, we are south of Lincoln on the edge. .........you'll know what I mean. We moved from Hampshire so I missed the trees and hills but now we are half way up the edge we go up and down the hill all the time and then look out over the flat landscape towards Nottinghamshire and the Trent. The village we live in has lots of large mature trees so I am sorted.

Read an article saying that, in Bejing they have screens showing the sunrise that people watch because the air pollution is so bad that no one can see the sun ...

I love the big, wide skies in the Algarve and one unexpected benefit of buying this house was the views to the west. I knew it was important to find somewhere facing south but I hadn't realised how much I'd appreciate the westerly views. We are lucky enough to have beautiful skies any time of year but it is in October we seem to have the best ones. Just before the clocks go back, the sun sets in the slightly south west over the sea, that is when I can't help 'boring' DH, (and Kitcheners) with photographs.

I have not long returned from a christening which turned into a very sociable day , HIC . So good to share a laugh with friends and family isn't it.

If I had the pleasure of those sunsets I would be oh sooooo happy. We had a holiday in Spain once and we used to sit in a particular bar and watch the sunset come up over the sea , it was magical and never failed to please. You are so lucky living in such an idyllic location.

Nandalot Having you join in the merry throng is a bonus. One of my sons lives in the pleasant county of Rutland. Not so distant from Lincolnshire.

Tegan Living in a place like Beijing would not appeal to me in the slightest. I enjoy the occasional short visit to a bustling city but I never feel "comfortable and at ease"...our wee village is home to less than 200 people. Much more to my liking.

Charleygirl The sky was heavy and grey last night. No red sunset whatsoever. Today, the sky is clear and the air is so pure I can easily pick out certain landmarks on the island of Jura.
