The Tooth Fairy

My dear little grandson has his first wobbley tooth. I hope his parents keep all his baby teeth, as I did with my children's.
The tooth fairy makes piano keys out of the teeth. Of course.

DGS in California recently lost his first tooth and his father said it was going to be $5 in $1 notes. I don't know if that is just for the first tooth or if the rest will be at a lower rate. No wonder he was grinning in the photo we got.

£40 for a set of teeth!! It's an expensive business!!

My DDs got 20p the DGD get what DDs have in cash or can get out of the piggy banks so anything from 20p-£2!!

Local rate here is apparently £2 for the first tooth and £1 after that.

The little things that make the occasion special seem to me to be more poignant and will leave lovely memories.

When I was little, where I grew up in London, everyone I know received sixpence.

Before I retired as a teacher, there were often lively discussions at school when children discovered that the tooth fairy had left more money at a friend's house. Some became quite upset as they thought that it was because they had been naughty or their tooth wasn't good enough.

Our local tooth fairy put toothpaste and a new toothbrush under the pillow and a small silver coin.

Our children prefer the tooth fairy that comes to their mam's in West Yorkshire rather than here because she puts £5 under their pillow whereas our East Yorkshire tooth fairy is much tighter with money and only leaves £1

GD1 woke up when her Mum had her hand under the pillow, for the latest tooth, and received a Nintendo game on the understanding that she did not blab to her younger sister. GD2 was asking why she didn't get money and her sister told her she had woken up and seen the fairy and then proceeded to describe her in detail right down to her tiny shoes

Well I'm blowed. I thought my DGD's tooth fairy was very generous, but it appears she gives the going rate. She was a bit disappointed this morning when she discovered that there was only £1.00 under her pillow. My explanation was that the fairy had a lot further to travel, and it cost her more to get here. I don't think that GD believed me though.

I blame the Royal Mint for introducing th £2 coin. I'd bet that before that the going rate was £1! I've a feeling that my two younger GSs get £1, though if they've found that their peers get £2, there will be a very sharp message for the tooth fairy. Do any of yours give the TF a name? My youngest GS calls he TF Thunder and nobody has been able to find out why.

I usedto give mine a sixpence per tooth, (2 and a half new pence), but my youngest grandchild gets £2 a tooth.

My London grandchildren get £2 a tooth, but the American ones only $1!

My children never asked what the tooth fairy did with all those teeth( thankfully.) as a child myself, we had no tooth fairy visits.
My DC give £2 per tooth as well,but it's all down to what a family can afford.

My mother used to tell me that they were going to be made into new horseshoes for the fairy horses.

I can confirm that the going rate is £2, both GDs are losing teeth at present.

The tooth fairy didn't visit our house.

PS we lived all over the country, but I am a southerner and my rates were the southern rates, I think.

That's inflation for you. DD now aged 30 used to get 50p, DS now aged 20 used to get £2 from me, £1 from his father. We had a few rows about that because of course I was the one faced with a small child in the morning asking if he had been naughty! I gave him £2 because that was the price of the smallest set of Lego figure he could by at the time. As it's probably about £4.99 now, at the very least, you can see the problem.
