Grandson

I apply that phrase to myself quite a lot, Solitaire, at nearly 75. It's an ongoing process isn't it? One of my DGDs is just the same. She has a real hissy fit if she can't wear one of a small range of clothes that she prefers. The other grandma spends a small fortune on lovely dresses but they mostly stay unworn. Luckily there's a baby sister who hopefully won't have this obsession with a few chosen items of clothing. I hope to go on living (in particular) and learning for some time to come.

Hi Amanda, my grandson, nearly 12 lives with me and I buy good quality clothing and shoes which I try to pass on to family and friends, otherwise I Ebay the almost /new ones. He has chosen to wear the same pair of trainers and 3 Tshirts in rotation this summer. Everything else is unworn! I'm living and learning.

I think I agree with Galen and go for £1000. But just in case there is a possibility that he might blow it on something else I'd give it to him in vouchers - perhaps Paul Smith, Oliver Spencer or similar?

I have had a very bad night puzzling over this problem. In these days of austerity the young are very hard hit, unlike us greying generation whose 'cup runneth over' I would give him a £1000.

When absentdaughter arrived to collect the children this evening she was wearing a very stylish cardigan – a light colour three-quarter-sleeve cardigan over a deep coloured top. I admired it and she told me that several other people had remarked on how nice it was. She picked it out of the free box at the charity shop – presumably it was there because the buttons were missing.

I only watched snippets of Ann Robinson but the baroness seemed a great character. I particularly liked her black n white spotted outfit with white jacket from the charity shop

I noticed the other day that GS#3 aged 11 was wearing a new grey hoodie. I noticed because he usually, cheerfully, wears an assortment of clothes already worn, sometimes quite well worn, by GSs #1&2. He just doesn't care which is great these days! Amanda's GS is not concerned about brands and the outfit she's getting is absolutely fine.
Just watched a tv programme about spending with Anne Robinson. I particularly liked the baroness whose outfits for formal occasions came from charity shops and eBay! Why not?!

How do I decide if I should give my Grandson £5 or £50 for his birthday.
