I am waiting for the kettle to boil for my last cup of tea of the day and I will poodle about on here to drink it before going to bed.

It is a lot preferable to looking for PE bags. (grr)

I get up very early (5ish summer, 6ish winter) and potter for the first hour. It's a peaceful time when I have nothing which needs doing. Sometimes I read or sew. Lots of black coffee, no breakfast. Then I take out the dogs.
I never turn on my computer until evening.

Over the summer holidays we had no time to ourselves Jingle but now the boys are back at school it would have been 2 afternoons a week supervising home works and catching up with school news. We'll miss them, but there is bound to be some babysitting. Just we have done the childcare for so long. I think DD feels we need to get a life. She may be right. But we will have to rethink our way of going.

I need some light relief after NatWest refused to authenticate my card to pay for some trousers I wanted to buy online. I don't know why! It is the online equivalent of chip and pin, and my card works in chip and pin machines. I will have to ring NatWest in the morning and find out what is going on. Nice trousers too, and half price in the sale. Bet they'll all be gone when I get the card sorted out. That would put the tin hat on it!

A friend's daughter's gerbil died while we were looking after it. She had warned me it was a very old gerbil.

My kids were about 9 & 7 then. I put rubber gloves on to take it out for burial. My kids both said something like Oh Mum don't be silly! They stroked it and carefully carried it out to it's grave. That really did put me in my place. It wasn't mangled though.

Nelliemoser Tue 01-Sep-15 17:25:44

Vegas That could probably be me.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 01-Sep-15 17:20:49

judthepud2 did you want your lives back? sad

vegasmags Tue 01-Sep-15 17:16:45

Nellie you remind me of a friend I rang when, going out after work in the dark to feed the rabbit, I realised he had been got at by a fox, and only his sad front end remained, face down in the rhubarb patch. In tears, I rang a friend who chided me for being such a wet and arrived 10 minutes later, armed with big gloves, bin bags etc. 'I know you're right' I sobbed as we made our way down the garden with a torch. On seeing the remains she exclaimed 'Oh no, the poor bunny!' and slumped to the ground, weeping uncontrollably. grin

Judthepud2 Tue 01-Sep-15 17:16:37

I'm on to stop myself having a little weep! Went to pick DGSs up from school to discover DD has arranged for them to be looked after by a new childminder to 'give us our lives back'. She forgot to tell us!! DH and I are feeling so sad. It feels like the end of something. sad

Waiting for the next instalment in the magpie saga!

Nelliemoser Tue 01-Sep-15 16:52:23

Come on Phoenix toughen up! wink All you need is a big shovel and a plastic bag.
If you have left the cat in the kitchen with the Magpie maybe a shovel and a hose and a bucket of hot Dettol.
grin

Happy Anniversary Auntieflo wine

Auntieflo Tue 01-Sep-15 14:31:30

I'm on GN now as resting my very aching knees. We are on holiday and have had two days with a lot of walking. Yesterday I hadn't meant to do so much, but we are with a group, and by the time we got to the back of the group after lunch, I hadn't heard all the ' instructions' , so just followed the crowd. Ah! then realised we were off yomping( not really) up to a high point in the far distance. One kind gent caught up with the leader and we managed to get to a point where we could peel off and do the 'short' walk back to the quay and wait for the boat back to St.Mary's. So today we are gathering strength for tomorrow's assault of Tresco. Wish me luck, as it will also be our wedding anniversary 54years.

Worlass Tue 01-Sep-15 14:19:18

Hi JBF! Thanks for the info. I wasn't putting in the brackets, hence no 'wink'. I have roused myself enough to do vacuuming after all. Think that calls for another coffee. wink

Thank you, Elegran biscuit smile

Nandalot Tue 01-Sep-15 13:13:43

I'm on now as a reward for having had a good 'go' in the study. Found lots of things I'd forgotten about including something I'd bought a replacement for. Oh well! Reason for unusual industry? BT man coming tomorrow to install super fast! Yeh!

Phoenix, what's the latest on the magpie? Are you superstitious? If you are don't forget to say to him 'Mrs Magpie wants you'. Apparently he is very under the thumb and will be too concerned about that to get up to any mischief!

Elegran Tue 01-Sep-15 13:09:34

It is one that we had temporarily that was then taken away from us! Just type biscuit with a [ and a ] round it, like the other emoticons.
