9/11

I was alone downstairs with my OH asleep upstairs. I debated waking him up to tell him but i did so as not to be alone. I still remember the feeling of shock.

I was working in a media company with TV sets all over the place - but we were all drawn to one set, as there seemed to be a need to be together with others to watch what was happening.

I think that, out of all the momentous happenings during my life time, this one affected me more than most. We had just cycled around Derwent reservoir and were returning our bikes to the hire centre, which had a TV in the reception. We, and a couple of other people there, thought they were showing a disaster movie until it dawned on us what was breaking. It was awful. We drove home in total silence, unable to find words, and when we got home and picked up the news on the TV, we both sat and cried.

I was at work in a nursing home. A carer came on duty at 14.00. She entered the lounge where we were transfixed by the events unfolding in the USA, and exclaimed, "that's an awful film you're watching". One of the elderly ladies replied, " it's not a film J. it's the news". You were right grannyqueenie the world changed on that day, and will never be the same again.

That terrible saw the very worst of human behaviour and the very best. I will never forget the kindness of the people of Calgary when my flight was grounded.

I was at work then, shocked we all crammed into the admin office to watch the news reports. I remember listening to the various politician's responses and having a sinking feeling in my stomach that the world would never be quite the same again....

This is also my sister in law's birthday, she hates the association with that dreadful event.
My thoughts at the time echoed katek's, closer to the truth than we could have imagined.
