Old TV jingles

The thread about the cost of cleaning carpets set off the old '1001 cleans a big big carpet for less than half a crown' advert in my head and it made me wonder whether I was brainwashed by ITV as a child. I still believe a Mars a day helps me work rest and play and that Pal dog food prolongs active life! Anyone else still wondering where the yellow went after brushing their teeth with Pepsodent?

Oh my goodness...an original is now £70 on eBay!

We had a Fred the flour grader children's baking set. His head was the bowl and his hat was a sieve. Came with utensils and cutters.

'Happiness is a cigar called Hamlet'

Loved those ads, especially the one with Gregor Fisher and his toupée in the photo booth!

Leonard Rossiter and Joan Collins in the Martini ads. They made you laugh however many times you saw them.
Slight diversion - I am driven mad by some of the current ads which have a female singing in a breathless, girly, sometimes wailing voice. Thank goodness for the mute button.

The Milky Bar kid is strong and tough,
And only the best is good enough,
The creamiest milk, the whitest bar,
The good taste that's in Milky Bar!

The Milky Bars are on me!

The finest tea is 99
The flavour's good, it's right on time
You buy it at your Co-op sign
Drink refreshing 99.

I love the new Fred advert. It's amazing how his smile is fixed yet seems to change from friendly to sinister grin

The milk advert where the boy is told if he doesn't drink his milk he'll only be good enough to play for Accrington Stanley.

Oxo - gives a meal man appeal!
And Fred the flour man from HomePride - but was there a jingle to go with that?
The Pepsodent and Mazda lamps stuck in my mind the most.

Electrolux vacuums had an advert in the 60s that said:

Nothing sucks
Like Electrolux!

How the meaning has changed grin

rosesarered Tue 15-Sept-15 20:31:12

Do you love anyone enough to give them your last Rolo?

gran5up Tue 15-Sept-15 19:12:38

Magic brand margarine used the Dance of the Flutes from,"Nutcracker" with the words,"Treat yourself to bread and Magic,
After all you do deserve the best"
After all these years, still can't hear the music without those wretched words popping into my head!
Anyone else recall the,"coloured" ads for a petrol-Esso,Shell?-where rotating circles made you "see" in colour
That was before the 60s when there were other ways to see colours...

Katek Tue 15-Sept-15 18:34:26

Coates comes up from Somerset where the cider apples grow

KatyK Tue 15-Sept-15 18:04:15

That must be why it has stuck in my mind trisher - I've probably heard it on the radio.

boo2410 Tue 15-Sept-15 17:45:32

Would you risk it for a swisskit. I used to love those.....

Bellanonna Tue 15-Sept-15 16:50:21

Players please
Senior Service satisfy
You`re never alone with a Strand

And I`ve never been a smoker!

Not a jingle, but anyone remember the early Surf ads with Jimmy Young as Mrs. Bradshaw`s lodger?

KatyK Tue 15-Sept-15 15:15:40

Also 'mum says when I grow up I'm going to be a proper little madam'. Clarks shoes I think that was. Sally Thomsett waiting for her boyfriend who doesn't turn up, going home and her mum gives her a cup of Bovril.
Sally says 'he had big ears anyway'.

trisher Tue 15-Sept-15 15:14:24

Katyk it was Brookebond Dividend tea www.headington.org.uk/adverts/tea_coffee_milk.htm
But the song originally was from a musical. My Gran used to sing it all the time

KatyK Tue 15-Sept-15 13:15:52

I like a nice cup of tea in the morning, just to start the day you see
And at half past eleven, well my idea of heaven is a nice cup of tea.
I like tea when I'm thirsty at dinner and a nice cup of tea with my tea.
And about this time of night, what goes down a treat, you're right, is a
nice cup of tea. brew

I have no idea which brand of tea this was advertising and no idea why I can remember it after all these years!
