Oh, poor Lucy BW. She must have had a terrible time. My own maiden name is unusual and caused titters at school. I dreaded the first day of a new school year because the teacher would invariably go round the class and make us say our names out loud. I would have loved to have been called Ann Smith or Mary Gibbs - anything to avoid the titters.

There was a girl in my school called Lucy Boddamweddam ((yes really!). She was always referred to by the staff as Lucy B.Weddam, but it didn't stop the sniggering among the children

In the 60s our college 10-pin bowling team used to play at Chester and the manager's surname was Sidebottom. When I once addressed him as Mr Sidebottom, he informed me it was pronounced 'sid-ee-bo-toom'

'Bums' was my Mil's favourite swear word. She used to use it then look round guiltily to see if anyone had overheard her. We all used to pretend we hadn't! It still makes me smile to think of it.

Never heard anyone say 'trackie bums'!

I do remember people saying BTM for bottom in my youth though.

Icylittle - me, too. Bum was not at all a nice word in our house. We had to say bottom. How times have changed. Trackie bums, though, I wouldn't say that, so rude..........really, wash your mouth out.

We call B&M 'bum' too!

But when I was young, 'naice' people didn't say bum! I still feel naughty when I say trackie bums.

We always call the B&M shop BUMS and recently discovered that others do, too! Anyway, nothing wrong with bums - we all have them!

Acronyms are generally a total mystery to me, certainly I'd read BOTM as 'bottom ', in fact those letters were well used as such when I was young!

As for the Batman symbol - I always see it as someone's tonsils.... No hope really
