M&S Sparks card

Is it me, or does anyone know what you're supposed to do with your 'Sparks'?? I had an email encouraging me to log on and see what my current 'offers' are ...... Errrrrrrr?? 20% off sarnies (which I never buy) and other lickle bits off of foodie stuff which again I never buy, or a preview of stock coming in. Unless it's me, I can't see the point of this particular loyalty card.

It is the most useless card ever

Twice last week I was emailed by M&S to log into my Sparks account as I had 'great new offers'! Tried each time to log in,only for it to fail and I get a message saying "Oops, something went wrong" or some such rubbish. It may help if their website actually worked.

I hate seafood and all I ever seem to get is 20% of either seafood or sushi! Yet a woman behind me in the queue gushed that she has saved a fortune. On what? The clothes are rubbish AND too youngish and expensive for me. I cannot use their make-up. About the only things I do buy are underwear and food, neither of which I ever get offers on.

TBH I will keep using it but only because I am in the shop, the staff at our one do ask for it.

Gosh I'm glad I resisted their blandishments to get one. They sound useless. I refused to get one as I don't want to 'sell' my contact details and shopping preferences to them which is what its all about.

Trust M & S to get it sooooo wrong again!!!!!

Especially this year, when there's been no frost to scrape off the windscreen.

grumppa Fri 12-Feb-16 21:16:33

Probably my most useless piece of plastic.

I couldn't work out how to sign up for the Sparks card and I thought I was reasonably computer savvy.

Anyway I can't be ar* to try again so let's all dowse out our Sparks Cards and vote with our feet.

Last year they stopped the loyalty card for greetings cards where you got a free card for buying six.
I think it was taken advantage of though as it was ok to buy 6cards at £1 each and then use the fully stamped card for a fancy hand crafted one costing £2/3. wink

My local m & s have stopped taking the coffee loyalty card. I went in there with a friend the other day and we decided to take advantage of the second with jam and cream and a pot of tea sparks offer. After a long queue at the till we were told that the store had run out of clotted cream so we saved the grand sum of 5p on a buttered scone and tea. The assistant just shrugged when we pointed out that by the time we returned the offer would be finished.

This card infuriates me for all the reasons others have said. Can't see how it can replace the loyalty coffee card, at least with that there was a definite bonus at the end, with Sparks points it is so unlikely I will benefit it makes the whole process futile and will encourage coffee elsewhere.

SueDonim Fri 12-Feb-16 16:27:02

There were signs in the M&S cafe in my town this week saying that in future the 'loyalty' coffee cards they give out will be stopped and that you'll get Sparks points instead.

We found a load of full cards when tidying recently so I hope they're still valid!

I have an M&S account and because my husband was doing the shopping I got a spare card for him. I got the sparks card set up and gave it to him. Every time he tried to use it it said it wasn't activated. It was .i kept showing him that it was. I can't see the point of issuing two account cards and but not two sparks cards. They are not thinking through.

Marymore Fri 12-Feb-16 15:42:39

I am so glad that you all feel the same about the Sparks card! I thought I was going mad. I have given up and M & S is my nearest shop so I go there fairly regularly for milk etc

annsixty Fri 12-Feb-16 11:47:33

Also had that letter this morning Pittcitty I haven't used any of the offers either. This week it is cream cakes, 25% off 6bottles of wine and half price chutney if you spend £5 on cheese!! Not much to tempt me there.

Pittcity Fri 12-Feb-16 11:19:32

Now M&S credit card is cutting it's points because of the EU! At least that's what the letter said.
I still have not found a relevant Sparks offer. I bought pyjamas but the discount was only on nighties. This week it's Valentines frivolities?

loopylou Fri 12-Feb-16 11:19:02

Gimmicky attempt by M&S to keep its customers in my opinion.
I have yet to gain anything from owning one, so far as I can tell hmm
Even the lady on the Customer Enquiries desk couldn't elaborate on the point of having them, which speaks volumes!

I'm subscribing to their emails today because they're irritating me so much ?

alternativegran Fri 12-Feb-16 10:23:44

Sparks cards!!

So much I dislike about this card, it's such a palaver and why don't they keep their offers on for at least a fortnight I don't go into town every week.

Yesterday I was in M&S hoping to take advantage of their offer on fish that I don't usually buy, it was a long list including lobster, dover sole, monkfish, turbot, sea bass, salmon, scallops etc. so I went into M&S instead of my usual supermarket. However not one fish on offer was in the store, so what is the use of a sparks card and can't M&S have a list of stores where their offers are not available.

SueDonim Sun 17-Jan-16 16:18:13

I'm not entirely sure what the point is, either. The offers I've seen have generally been for use within the next five days and as I have a 40+mile round trip plus parking to pay for, it hardly seems worth the effort to buy something I don't want/need with 20% off. hmm

glassortwo Sun 17-Jan-16 14:32:37

I can go and have a piece of cake and a hot drink tomorrow for £3.00. Is that cheap don't buy cake hmm but I have no idea what the card actually does.

Pittcity Sun 17-Jan-16 14:26:49

Jayh I have an ordinary M&S credit card and the Sparks card is separate from this at the moment. You have to choose offers emailed to you and load them on to your Sparks card, bit of a faff!
I decided against joining the premium club as it would cost me more than I got in rewards. They are no longer taking new premium members, so there may be changes soon.

Jayh Sun 17-Jan-16 14:06:12

I already get free hot drink vouchers through the premium club but I pay £20 or so a month to be a member. I dont understand the Sparks card idea either. Is it replacing the perks I get by using my M&S credit card? Is it worth carrying on with the Premium Club?
I am so glad you brought this up, Nansy. I thought it was just me.

Elrel Sun 17-Jan-16 13:38:22

Decisions, decisions!!

Pittcity Sun 17-Jan-16 12:54:47

Just had an interesting email from Marks telling me that I could get coffee and cake for £3 tomorrow if I showed my Sparks card and that a few lucky card holders should listen out for the door bell as they may be having a bouquet delivered.
Now should I go into town for coffee and risk missing the delivery of my bouquet?

Indinana Thu 31-Dec-15 20:15:01

I had very little interest in bothering with this pointless card, and I have even less inclination after reading all of your accounts tchhmm. Don't even know what I did with mine. And I don't care tchgrin

rosequartz Thu 31-Dec-15 20:11:30

I am not taking a Sparks card out. I rarely buy clothes there now, mainly food.

Perhaps if we all rebel they will think again.
