My new face cream works !!

My 84-year-old MIL hates feeling that she's got wrinkles, and still colours her hair black, but it isn't fair cos she really does look about 50 - far younger than me!

PS I have even in the past been asked if my son was my husband? and my daughter my sister

I have never used expensive face creams, I believe they are a con. You are paying for the name and the claims they make. In my own experience wrinkles etc how you look are genetic. Everyone always thought my mother was my sister and my grandmother my mother. I am very lucky in that no-one ever believes my age. I am 72 - And people comment all the time that I look much younger. I use E45 lotion as I am allergic to perfumed stuff, on my face and wherever else. I (OH SHOCK HORROR) sometimes dont take my make up off at night. I use or do nothing else for my skin. I also have a friend who is 79 who never takes her make up off at night, and looks years younger than her age.

Yes, they still make Ponds cream lilian, I bought some just to give it a try. Big mistake, nasty greasy stuff.

I agree, wrinkles are in the genes. thankfully I am one of the fortunate ones but a friend of mine, who spends a fortune on expensive creams has loads of wrinkles. Ah well, some you win, some you lose.

My mam used Ponds face cream too and Oil of Ulay (Olay). She rarely went out in the sun and had a face like a road map but very soft! I think wrinkles must be in the genes. I am going that way too despite moisturising since my teens, on her advice.

My dear mama used to use Ponds face cream and had very few wrinkles even at ninety !!!! not sure if they still sell it though need to check it out ...

MaryXYZ. My local pub does pensioner lunchtime meals at a good 'reduced' price and I looked forward to going there. When I did I discovered there is a special menu for pensioners and the meals, same price as children's meals, are half size too. I can't see why anyone goes back there. A couple of fish and chip shops in our area do a reduced lunch for pensioners but happily they expect us to eat adult portions. My appetite hasn't changed from when I was young, more's the pity.

This must be a first! No text-speak or mutilated words, and proper sentences. I blame it on phonetic spelling or whatever it was they were teaching children some time ago. I cringe when I see words mis-spelt and mangled, no idea what some of them are talking about although if you read some comments out aloud you can work out what they are saying. I know my English grammar isn't perfect but it makes you wonder what they were taught at school.

When I was having hospital treatment the nurse asked if my father is still with us, He'd have been 121.

I remember a few years back going into a pub for some food with my then-21 year old daughter. The doorman politely asked for her ID, which she produced. He then held the door open for her to enter. But I waited for my turn; somehow he didnt want to see if I had ID even when I offered! No idea why, although the walking stick might not have helped!

Hi N&G I'm only off to Bristol but to visit my daughter and baby grandson (first one for me, he's just turned a year old and is brilliant) so no winter sun or exciting nightlife but lots of playing and a bit of babysitting

I do think it's in your genes my mother always looked younger than her years and my brother and sister who are early seventies both look youthful I'm hoping as the little sister I follow in their footsteps but I put my smooth skin down to Dr organics snail gel serum I was a bit dubious about using it at first but wouldn't use anything else now.

My DM had beautiful skin and always used Oil of Ulay. But they've changed it to Olay.im sure it's not as good .

The Clarins cream I am using is Super Restorative Day Cream . I love Clarins stuff, proven or unproven, I like the scent , it seems to do the trick and it's my little treat ( well DH's little treat ).

But I say whatever works for you. I've been using it since 1990 when a lady I was at uni with had such beautiful skin I had to ask and she recommended it.

Of course as Dh points out I use body fat as an additional weapon against wrinkles ... I'm surprised sometimes I'm still married to him !!

GP prescribed Diprobase for my dry skin,which I have used for about 20 years also use cetraban so havent had to buy moisturisers have been told my skin is good with few wrinkles,but also my neck has few lines and wrinkles,also can be used as a soap substitute.

I am using a free sample of Aveeno day cream at the moment. It seems fine, and I doubt if it would be expensive.

Sillynanny65 you are so right. The amount of older women with beautiful skin is amazing and when you ask they all say, Ponds, Nivea or Astral because that was all there was around after the war. Probably lack of package holidays and alcohol helped too but what about the cigarettes? Lots of people smoked then. Must admit to using serum and moisturisers but usually something on offer or at TK Maxx!! Cannot believe people actually spend hundreds on things like creme de la mer.

The first time I used my free bus pass I really wanted the driver to say "No don't believe you, must have borrowed your mother's pass" instead the driver didn't turn a hair, then a very elderly gentleman sat beside me and tried to persuade me to accompany him to a local Derby and Joan club. Deflated? I slumped my way all around town like a much older lady. Vanity - thy name is woman.

I don't believe in paying lots of money for face creams, research has proved that not necessarily the most expensive is the best. I have used Nivea cream (in blue tin) since my teens, like my grandmother and my mother. I am often taken for at least 10 years younger than I really am! My mother is 90yrs old and people think she is about 80 in fact Christmas, someone who did not know her actually commented on what a beautifully soft skin she had, and hardly any wrinkles. I rest my case!!

If I could just findmy new face cream, I'd be over the moon. Sigh!

My lovely step-father was once refused a tube of glue in a hardware store, by a young assistant, unless he had a letter from his mother. He was at least 70 at this point.
