We are putting on an event to celebrate SG's day and would like to play some music. Can anyone suggest something suitable? Also what's more English fish&chips or roast beef & Yorkshires?

'In an English Country Garden' perhaps, or 'Puff the Magic Dragon'.

Or the Last Night of the Proms medley of sea shanties. How about the eve of battle speech from 'Henry V'?!

There's a song called Here's to you Sweet England. It's on You Tube.

"There'll Always Be An England"
"The Stately Homes of England"
"In an English Country Garden "( how many flowers...) iOS , Elrel said that.
(Yorkshire) "On Ilkley Moor"
"We'll gather lilacs"
"There'll be Bluebirds Over the White Cliffs of Dover"
"Jerusalem"
"I Vow the Thee My Country"

Are you sure the PC police will allow something so non-inclusive?

As for the food, I believe Tandoori Chicken is top favourite!!grin

iOS??? "Oops"

Ralph McTell also wrote a song called England.......worth a listen.

I'm glad I asked the question, there are more choices than I thought.
I think the PC police will be fine Alea, we had a burns night a couple of weeks ago and a Bollywood last year. Must be our turn!

Mamardoit thank you for that, just listening now, it is lovely.
Ralph McTell has such a wonderful voice.
Definitely No 1 choice!

In an English Country Garden reminds me of piano practice (over and over again), although it is pretty!

I also love Home Thoughts from Abroad by Clifford T Ward (although not, strictly speaking, about England, more Worcestershire and missing his love), but he does mention English poets. I don't know why it always make me feel tearful.

Apparently one of Terry Wogan's favourite songs.

Rose of England -for a real patriotic moment
and
The stately homes of England -for a bit of light relief

Thinking of Terry maybe The floral dance! That would get feet tapping.

Try the folk group Show of Hands. Their new album 'The Long way home' is very atmospheric. It starts with a lament, 'Breme fell at Hastings' with Old English words from the poem 'The Battle of Maldon' spoken by the historian Michael Wood.

I think not, coolgrannny. A look at the lyrics was enough to confirm my suspicion that yours is a wind-up post.
