What's for dinner?

Tonight we will be having the lamb keema or butter chicken from the freezer and the Sainsbury's frozen multi-colour rice because I am doing a shift in the library and I'm always jiggered when I get home.

Today I made a sausage casserole from the Hairy Bikers cookbook, with mashed potatoes. No pudding, as I am trying to reduce a bit. I am doing it by stealth as DH could do with losing a bit of weight too!

Out for lunch today. There are three of us (plus my DH) and we take turns, one making the main part of the meal, one the starter and one the pudding. So it can get rather "generous". So today was a goats cheese, orange and chicory salad then coq au vin followed by a bread and butter pudding. I may never need to eat again.

I have had river cobbler and if I remember it has another rather descriptive and unpleasant sounding name. Does anyone know it?

Our house rule for Saturdays is that it's easy and we can eat it on our knees! Hopefully it's a take away!

Tonight, kedgeree, made with smoked river cobbler. Last night, left over chicken casserole. Tomorrow, cheese and lentil loaf, with salad, courtesy of suggestions from Gransnet. So glad this thread is back. Thank you all.

Tonight venison casserole, roast potatoes and creamed cabbage. Last night warm chicken and bacon salad.

There is a house rule for Saturday night supper, has to be reasonably healthy, easy and minimum washing up!

"Surf 'n Turf" steak topped with scallops (flash fried in butter, splash of a wine, cream) with salad.

Well it is Valentine's Day after all!

Dessert is likely to be ice cream.

Roast pheasant (bottom of freezer), roast Jerusalem artichokes (garden), roast baby turnips, cauliflower mash, meat juices de-glazed with a sploosh of sherry.

Chicken and mushroom stroganoff with basmati rice followed by Strawberry tarts. All thanks to M and S. Plus a bottle of chilled wine.

Mum used to make these when we were children and we loved them. Like haggis, it's best if you don't know what goes in them. Before she died Mum gave me her recipe but she used to wrap them in a membrane which she called 'caul'. I can't buy anything that looks like that where we live. Just wondered how you make yours, please?

DH has pretty much taken over the cooking now. Last night was cheese on toast but only because we'd been out for a birthday lunch with is son & daughter, lovely Turkish meal. Tonight will be probably chicken casseroled in some way. He is a great cook!

I'm interested in these meals. DH does the shopping at the moment so because he doesn't like pasta,butternut squash,sweet potato,broccoli ,plaice,any fruit or pudding,he doesn't buy . I'm interested in the number of meals eaten by Gransnetters which have these ingredients. This year I'm aiming to make one thing every week which I've never made before but I suspect DH would like to revert to his mother's cooking. Liver , mince and dumplings kidney,sweetbreads, endless fish of the salmon trout variety and haddock not cod.

Must be quite a rarity kitty. I've never heard of them. Anyone else know what they are?

Last night we had home made chicken leek and ham pie. Today we are having Goldhawk with treCle tart for pud as we have visitors.

Last night was a steak pie bought at our local market ... best in the country! Tonight will be roast chicken, boiled potatoes and veggies. Also bought a little red velvet cake as a nod to St Valentine. ???

Scanned the lentil loaf recipe in, hope it is OK. The pencilled amounts down the side are the ones I used when there are just two of us.

To day is Roast Chicken and three veg with colcannon mash and roast pots then fresh raspberries and low fat yogurt,raspberries are lovely and plump at the moment and quite delicious.
