Senior Cinema showings

My husband and i used to go to The Silver screen regularly and thought it was great value at £3 ahead including coffee and a biscuit. They usually show the sort of films we enjoyed. My husband is in hospital now so can't go but I saw Bridge of Spies last week and it was a good afternoon out even on my own. It has proved very popular as there are now four Silver Screen events every week.

Had the same experience as Newquay, plus the number of Zimmer frames and walking sticks meant that it took 20 minutes to get everyone seated. I think I will have to age a fair bit more before I will contemplate that again!

Saw Brooklyn at the Odeon a couple of weeks ago in the Silver Cinema showing.
A full room, and we groaned and chuckled in unison which was nice.
Not so nice to head for my seat to find it already occupied. Thankfully there was a free seat on the other side of the aisle.

Only found out about Silver Screen a few months ago and now go every month or so with a friend. £3, including tea or coffee and biscuits beforehand, wonderfully comfortable new cinema and lovely to be with a generation of people who know how to behave! The OH says he doesn't like going to the cinema during the day but thinks nothing of sitting watching sport of all kinds on TV during the day!

Wow, this sounds brilliant! I've just found that our local Odeon in Mansfield has Silver Cinema for £3 - bonus is it's wheelchair accessible too. Now I have to pop up there and ask them if DH will be able to transfer to a comfy seat, not remain in his wheelchair... That's why we stopped going to "Orange Wednesdays". They used to make us sit down the front, no matter how empty the place was and he got dreadful neck ache from sitting in his chair for so long. Fingers crossed times have changed!

Orange Wednesdays vanished when EE took over Orange. But there are other mid weeks deals. Only go to the cinema when the film warrants a big screen, otherwise we wait for it on DVD.

I had no idea that cinemas offer this. I must check it out as I enjoy going to the cinema but rarely go because of the price.

I used to get 2 for 1 tickets on Orange Wednesday's so DH and I once went to see a James Bond release. We realised why we didn't go to the cinema any more.
There was an obese young woman at the end of our row who never stopped noisily stuffing her face with food-was fearful they'd need the fire service to get her out at the end.
Then a row of students came in front of us, all talking all the time.
And who DID make that awful smell?

A while ago my DS went with a friend to a silver showing of a film she'd missed-asked how it went and she said "never again!"?
She said it was full and they all had tea and biscuits except. . . . That meant there were regular trips to the loo and, on returning to their seats, they'd stop and have a chat as they passed-"how's your Bill?" And "how's your Mam?"
She said it was worse than a school outing. Lol.

I go every week, sometimes with a friend, sometimes on my own but have always felt comfortable, everybody is friendly. I've someitmes sighed when I have seen the film choice for that week and gone to see it anyway as I look forward to my cinema day and found lots of films I really loved which I would never have chosen by the title or preview, so it widens my perspective on life, all for £3 including biscuit and tea. The only down side I found is when asked to go to the cinema at other times at full price I shout....HOW much???

Our cinema charges £2.50 weekdays and £3.50 Saturday. That's for everybody not just S.C.

Going to see Lady in a Van today at 1.30. £3.50 but we're going on a 2-4-1 deal as well. Can't say fairer than that

We rarely go to the cinema, DH doesn't like going out, and the sound is painfully loud for me. But our local does cheap senior seats on an afternoon, it is usually full, judging by the queues outside. They used to stop at 1/2 time for tea and cake, but I think they go through the whole film now. It is usually the film which is being show at the time - but we are a very small town!

We get chocolate biscuits too Maggie but I did notice the man sat next to us tucked into his cheese and cucumber sandwiches during the movie ;-)

Oh, our Vue cookies are the real McCoy. Choc chip, crystallized ginger or choc and orange, two big ones in a pack. And the coffees are massive. I haven't noticed anyone slipping extra cookies into their bags, but I'll be looking out for it now

I have just checked the screening for next Tuesday at 1100 at Bicester, it is £3. 80p to get in ,although I did see the film under normal price, I enjoy Steven Spielberg films and Bridge of Spies is showing this is a week prior to DVD release.

Oh, how greedy, Elrel The biscuits are just wee plain ones, too! It's a wonder they're not standing there holding out their Thermoses and asking for them to be filled with tea!

I enjoy it, cheap, safe, friendly. At one point apparently people were bringing Tupperware boxes to fill with biscuits, there was a threat to stop supplying them!

I've not heard of this. It sounded good so I looked at the Vue cinema nearest to me. The senior screening is on at 12.30 on a Wednesday. This is a most inconvenient time for me and the DH, so we will not be able to go. It's a pity, because the films coming up are really good. We don't have an Odeon near us, so I can't try them.

Our local Odeon does it, too. My friend and I have been a few times and it's really busy! Last week it was Bridge of Spies that we saw. What's so good, is that the showings are at 11am or 2pm on a Wednesday and Thursday - and it's only £3 for tea and biscuits!

I've been twice recently. Once to see Room and the other The Martian. Going tomorrow to see Carol. £3. It's a bargain.

My sister and NVD brother in law regularly go to Newcastle, but nothing like it where I am
