Nanaandgrampy, I have wiped the rubber seal , but haven't removed it.

Thatbags, I hope you are wrong!!

JanT2004, There doesn't seem to be a filter.

Elegant, Think there is. Will get DH to investigate.

Altima, I do usually leave the door slightly ajar.

Thank you all for your replies.

They say to leave the door ajar when the machine is not in use to help prevent the pong. I also do a hot wash with soda chrystals which does seem to help.

Is there a U-bend in the drain pipe that the hose empties into?

Have you cleaned the filter?

Dead mouse underneath?

Have you checked the underside of the inner rubber seal for mould? iT's easily replaceable and this often happens.

Hi everyone, I have an unpleasant smell in my washing machine. I have tried running the washer through on a 90 degree wash, citric acid and several brands of washing machine cleaner that are supposed to eliminate smells. Although some have improved things for a little while, nothing has worked long term, and the smell keeps returning. It's terrible when I come back from holiday and the machine hasn't been used for two weeks. Any suggestions?
