I must admit to mostly saying "Hiya" if it`s a family member or close friend who I`m greeting, otherwise I say hello.

That's something D would say pittcity smile

No, it doesn't bother me.
I do say "Hello" when answering the phone but thinking about it when I saw a friend in town today I actually said "Alright Bridie" maybe that's a regional thing.
I think of hello as more formal than hi and use both as I find appropriate.

I have noticed more people around here saying " Hiya Hun" . Sounds to me like a very tall German!

Not Hi! Whatever happened to the word "Hello" - these days everyone seems to say "Hi!". Why? I am sorely tempted to say "Low" when I am greeted this way. Sorry, that is another grumpy voice, but would like to know how others feel about this, perhaps it does not bother you at all.
