GranE my DD, every year, takes a group of schoolchildren to different locations in London, where they listen to lectures on various interesting aspects of science. Professor Robert Winston gave the lecture this year. The kids loved it. That's the kind of thing that keeps children interested in science. Not down-market pandering to the masses.

Boaty McBoatface? Is that the best we can do? I might have laughed my socks off when I was 12. At the risk of being called po-faced (and I'm really not), I'm voting for Henry Worsley. After a brave explorer who died earlier this year and who deserves to be remembered.

Elrel, I found an option at the top of the list to do a search. When I entered Boaty McBoatface that one came up. I'd also looked right through the list, I thought, but missed it.

Boaty McBoatface has thousands more votes than any of the others.

Apparently the site has been crashing since yesterday. The reports I read said 16000 had voted for Boaty, but it was over 60000 when I voted. Keep trying!
