Children's misheard, misremembered or made up words.

DD used to get 'eggcups' and to this day hiccoughs are so-called in our family

When our grandson was about three and a half, we took him on the tram. There is a recorded announcement for each upcoming stop and the one for Granville Road comes out sounding very like 'Crumble Road'. GS said "that man said this is Crumble Road. Is it because it's made of crumble, Nanny?" We did put him right, but we can't think of it as anything but Crumble Road now!

DD's FiL insists on calling his prostate his prostrate even though he has been put right on more than one occasion. I know a lot of people do mistake one for t'other. We crease up every time it is mentioned - which is often.
I had an Uncle Cyril and for years right up to my teens he was, in my head, Uncle Squirrel until one day the truth dawned....
As for scrambled eggs - my Dad always called them scrambled 'legs' and my DDs and DGCs call them the same to this day.

We have a friend who still pronounces 'hospital' as 'hospikal' and 'little' as 'likkle'

DD1 learnt two songs when she was little - "Come for a row in my pink blue boat" (I think it was meant to be big not pink, but still like the idea of a magenta boat!) and the other was by Queen, and we still sing about "We are the Shampoos of the world".But it's not just kids. My elderly aunt came from Aberdeen to visit and offered to make supper. "I'll make scrambled eggs". My father, having enjoyed the eggs sighed happily "Ah, there's nothing like scrambled eggs" and couldn't understand when she burst into tears - she thought he was criticising that "That's nothing like . . . " We had some Royal Worcester egg coddlers, and the same aunt thought they were egg cuddlers". Happy memories.

I couldn't say shoulders but said soldiers instead. My second son called fruit and ice cream gock and gimmer and my youngest son called Father Christmas - Farmer Christmas.

A neighbour's child flummoxed her parents by spying 'something beginning with 'w'. When the finally gave up, she triumphantly declared, 'wadiator'.

Just remembered a couple more. Quite a few years ago when there was a water shortage,my then 6 year old DD asked what a 'hose pipe band' was (hose pipe ban). And she said she had been to a 'jungle sale' with her nanna at the local church.

Just to explain it was a misheard line from a Manfred Mann song.
