I'm on the management committee of our village hall and we recently employed a new cleaner. It's not a hugely well paid job, £200 per month, but was ideally suited for the young, single mum who got the job. She could work round her children and make hours to suit herself as long as the work was covered. We/she did everything by the book, contacted benefits people, tax credits etc. but today we received a call from her to say she's having to give up the job. The reason? Her benefits have been cut by £300 pm- a whole £100 more than we're paying her. This is a young woman who wants to work but is now back to being dependent on benefits. The cleaning job wasn't going to make her rich, but it got her back into the world of work and would have gained her an excellent reference for full time employment once her child was at school as she's very good at what she does. Where is her incentive now? I'm really quite angry about it.

It Must Be Autumn Even Though It's Not September....
Reducing contact because my heart just isn't in it.
Would you think it was odd if a younger person wanted to befriend you?
