Ha ha. Greyduster, that's if I go there. I've always wondered what The Ivy might have been like though. Ah well ....

Lots of people go to concerts, cinema, theatre and holidays alone - why not!

Oh Greyduster. So was I. Once! I'd been to the Bolshoi and an American guy next to me invited me to the Ivy afterwards ! I said oh no, I've got to get my husband's dinner! What an idiot !!

Went to one on Saturday on my own, just got over pneumonia and wanted to do something nice. DH probably would have come, but on my own I didn't have to worry about whether he was ok. He has health problems and I'd spend my time worrying about him. Do lots of things alone and enjoy them. As it turned out I met a friend there and we sat together. It was a symphony orchestra in a local church, easy to get to and ditto parking. I often do matinees in London too. No problems at all.

I've been to quite a few concerts on my own - DH doesn't share my taste for a lot of the music I listen to. I've even been chatted up at a couple of them (yes he does know about it!).

Go and enjoy it

Of course you should go. Lots of women do things on their own these days. Now I'm waiting for Pompa to spot that! I bet he does things on his own, too.

I like going on my own! Don't have to worry about meeting up, or whether or not they'll like it. Just me to please. I occasionally book something without telling anyone (they'd only want to come) and sneak off quietly. Mr H doesn't mind at all, in fact, I suspect he's glad to see the back of me!

Go - just go! Can't see the problem at all - and puzzled by the fact that DD is also going, but you will be going on your own. Are you coming from different places and it's the journey that is troubling her?

It's really none of her business to be honest! You are a grown adult!! - older than she is! Perhaps you should tell her that you are worried about her going and think it's irresponsible!

I go to everything on my own and have done for years - OH has PD and also panic attacks in large venues. If I hadn't gone to these things on my own, I would have done very little!

I have never thought twice about doing anything on my own, either now in my 70s or when I was younger.

Yes, have been to a couple of things solo. What I find really ? is people saying 'Why didn't you say? I would have come with you' !!!!

Throughout my life I gave gone to the cinema and the theatre on my own and thoroughly enjoyed it. I do go with DH too. I always take reading material with me so I can look at it in the interval.

As long as you have your mobile on you, make sure you keep some hidden money on you and your car/house keys in your pocket. This must seem a little over the top, but since being robbed last year I make sure I can get home even if my bag is stolen.

If she's concerned, perhaps she should go with you. I think I would be rather annoyed at being called "irresponsible" for wanting to go to a concert.

Go for it, why shouldn't you if it's something you would enjoy? Is your daughter worried about you travelling alone in the evening maybe?
