I married into an unusual surname that lends itself to various misspellings and mispronunciations, most of them obscene. And everyone who does it thinks they're being terribly original and ever so funny. They're not, on either count! I thought long and hard before deciding to change my perfectly normal name to this one. Oddly enough, DD1 has chosen to keep it, and DDIL has chosen to take it on. DD2 has changed to her husband's surname, but it's been a gradual process over the last six years. It's surprising what you can get used to!
