As another one of you said recently- stop it, the tears are running down my legs! Nomination for dead gentlemen Alan Rickman and my Dad. Living gentleman - David Cameron - whoops, massive typo there, meant to say Dara O'Briain, he always seems like a nice, gentle, funny man.
My DH is a gentleman. He is kind and considerate to people and has got his priorities right I think. My sister described him last week as 'too nice' which means he is sometimes too eager to please others at his own expense. I'm trying to 'cure' him of that
I always think gentleman means a gentle man - but perhaps it's short for "gentry", I don't know. Anyway that's what the word means to me - a gentle man.
To retain the true meaning of gentleman I think that an affair would mean that the lovely David Beckham could not be called a gentleman. A lovely chap though.
I'm not so sure - would a true gentleman have an affair behind his wife's back? Surely not Presumably he has been redeeming himself ever since and has turned into a gentleman
