I was sitting in traffic in Berkhamsted yesterday, on my way to Waitrose, when I witnessed not one but two near misses as a result of pure impatience. Granted, the lights there take an age to change but there was no excuse for what I saw. An ambulance with siren and lights came along on the opposite side to me, clearly in a rush. We were at a crossroads and first one then another driver decided to go across from my left while the lights were still in their favour. Unbelievable! I don't think I've ever seen such near misses. The look on the poor ambulance driver's face was of horror. I wonder if it had been a family member of the drivers, what would they have thought of other drivers with such a sense of entitlement. I'm still shaking when I recall it.
On the way back, sitting in the same traffic, I heard a sudden roar as a porche overtook all of us (on my side) and dived into a parking space just before the oncoming traffic started. A few seconds later (too late unfortunately), a couple of police cars came along. Oh how I wished they had witnessed it.
