I've got various "long" leads which I could clip together and am wondering if I were to attach him to a pergola post in a shady corner with 10ft of "tether" so that he can still mosey around, go on the grass, or whatever, whether that would be fair, acceptable, but not cruel, Grace would probably stay inside anyway, but I would prefer to keep the doors to the garden open.

Lona and N&G lovely little happy souls and quiet at that moment. The wonders of TV and a pair of silly glasses.

DaphneBroon If Grace is upset in the slightest I will be over to take charge of that other precious pet and get him to please not irritate Grace who owns the house. She needs toi rest as we all know.

It is another scorcher here, we have now had a week of it with no rain at all although it has fallen in other parts of London. I and Tara have had enough. She lies stretched out either in my bedroom or on the landing- the laminate is cool but cannot be comfortable for her. She moves several times a night, poor soul. She is frightened of the fan so never gets any benefit from it. It no longer oscillates but I am beyond caring.

dustyangel, this particular Fallen Angel is on the mend thank you, bruises yellowing and wounds scabbing over nicely. One hand's still painful, so I think I will be having it looked at - as I can't face the thought of hours in our local A & E (a friend waited from 1pm till nearly 8pm last week ), I'll probably pop to the walk-in centre near DGS2's house when we're minding him on Monday.

Too hot here again ( moan moan.) Also have hay fever and am coughing my way to a gold medal.Have polished the entire house this morning as we were up early to eliminate dust ( it sure did need doing!) Now I need a mug of tea with honey in it.Is there any carrot cake going?

Another thought - is he a lover of bones ? Putting one in his shady spot and giving him a bone might occupy his time?

Charley poor Tara ! Sam lays in the bathroom as it is the shadiest place in the house but we have found him sitting under the sprinkler once or twice too !!

He now has a badger stripe down one side where he rubbed up against fresh white paintwork. He is not impressed ( and neither is Grampy !!)

Sorry to hear your hand is still painful * Maggie* maybe it IS time to get it looked at incase.

I have found my hay fever ( mainly itchy eyes) seems to have gone on much longer this year * Rose* I wonder what's causing it?

Here you are rosesarered, I was up at six o'clock this morning baking a carrot cake (from scratch I'll have you know - none of those packet mixes!) complete with lemony cream cheese topping and little tiny icing carrots.
Please don't eat the sugar bunny on the top, I have promised him to the DGD .
I hope the cough is better soon, DH is hacking away too.
Suffering with burnt legs this morning - how stupid at my age. We took the DGD to the beach and I carefully put suncream on the girls, my arms, neck, face, but forgot to do my legs. Ouch.

Daphne your SIL doesn't realise that dogs only respond to one or two word commands! I think the long lead is a good idea.

UP is a Pixar cartoon that I love but I think probably goes over the head of most little ones. There's no talking at all in the first 20 mins or so but it's well worth a watch ( take tissues if you're an old softy like me ! )

Friends visited yesterday bringing a coffee cake. I now have half of the cake left and I need it like a hole in the head. I put my ex clinical hat on answering the myriad of questions about having a knee replacement, that was for the fellow.

Tara was out when my friends were here but when she came home the first thing she did was jump on to the sofa. She is not allowed and understands the word "no". She had obviously picked up the scents of their adult cat and two kittens and she was intrigued, especially as they obviously were not in her house.

Mmmm coffee cake is a favourite of mine Charley , may I visit ??

cornergran I know one wee man who would love to tramp around Puzzle Wood. He would be in his element. It's a pity that it isn't nearer to where he lives (the heart of London). Although there is a wetland reserve that he's visited on occasions.

kittylester My word, there's been some nasty stuff happening to your family members. As for your brother-in-law driving home having had the knee replacement injury...the mind boggles. The very thought of Lottie having her finger nail pulled out, made me shudder. Has she had the finger bandaged and has she some pain relief? A week seems an awful long time for her to wait for whatever treatment comes next.

Lona I cannot tell you how happy I am that you are happy. The stress and fretting is over and done with. Your evening sounds perfect. I also had baked beans last night. Don't ask...

dusty Torben would have been in his element had he seen the digger being transported. Diggers and trains are high on his list of special likes.

DaphneB Your home...not your dog...be tough if needs be. Grace wasn't too well not so long ago. She is recuperating and needs a quiet environment in which to do so. Let us know how you cope with the business of the iPhone.

Any time N&G. I am so glad in this heat I only have to cater for myself so if I do not want anything to eat it does not matter and I am not slaving over a hot stove. I will be moaning in January that I am cold and I would like to see some sunshine. There is rarely any pleasing of me.

He is beavering away making the lemonade- I agree, £80 for a glass was a tad over the top and he would not make any money but he has half a chance if it is 20p. A pity I do not live closer.

If you are interested in the Harrow meet up next Thursday the 28th July I can PM you but it is a distance for you. I started a thread for it but even after bumping it up it vanished within hours. I have PMed a couple of people who I know would have missed it and it is nobody's fault. To date 4 of us will be there.

Charleyg It's very close hereabouts. No sunshine at the moment. Rory has taken it into his head to wander across the road on a couple of occasions recently. MacSporran is terribly concerned. He's wondering what on earth he can do to deter him. We certainly cannot imprison him in the house.

Maggiemaybe It's difficult to believe that your friend had such a long wait in A&E. Although we live in a fairly remote area, if something seriously needs attention, then it one is seen within a very short time. You need to visit the walk in centre on Monday. Hands are precious.

My dd,her partner and dgd2 have been here today, along with dgd3, and I've been left with a chocolate eclair and a cream filled choux bun! I did send them home with a large goody bag, but somehow the cakes were forgotten!!

The sun hasn't yet appeared from behind low lying cloud. It is muggy. I did an hour of serious housework and was sweating profusely by the time I finished. Thought to meself...b*** that for a game of soldiers. Well, what's a girl to do - get all hot and bothered or visit Gransnet. A no brainer, as some say.

How many of you lovely lot regularly burn either your hand or arm when ironing? I have scars galore. Have just caught my thumb with the tip of the iron. In spite of running cold water over it, it has blistered and burst. Such a silly, careless, painful way of teaching myself to take more care.

MacSporran has installed a temporary barrier which he hopes may dissuade Rory from venturing beyond the entrance to the drive. I have my doubts. People passing by will imagine that we're being "precious" and are hoping to deter folk from turning in the drive. We have no worries concerning such things. I can hardly put a notice of apology.

soop that sounds like a nasty burn!! Be careful of it. I loved the picture of young Torben , what a beautiful boy .

The lemonade stand was a huge success . My DDs friends were very good and all allowed themselves to sold too , surprisingly good lemonade too. He made a total of £12 which will be put away for his car fund .

The BBQ was fun with an inpromptu water fight that the dads enjoyed especially .

What a good dog!
Mission accomplished, we spent most of the day in the garden and the dogs were FINE!

Wish me luck. I'm going to try to make some lemon drizzle cakes tomorrow. I'm definitely no master baker. How much sponge mix do you put in each case? To the top? Halfway? Never made sponges in my life! Thought they grew in the sea
