DaphneB It's a fact that babies are affected by injections and hot weather also plays a part in curbing the appetite. Try not to worry too much. Little Man isn't losing weight. The doctor is the person to give the best advice.
Grace is a well cared for woofter. She'll never be short of tip-top TLC. Rory is beginning to gain weight (yet again) I believe that he may be sneakily plundering food from Bracken's dish when they dine together in the evening.

CharleyG MacSporran s partial to curry. He resided in Leicester for many years. He's an expert on such matters.

dustyangel Aww! All those dogs visiting late evening. Did you put on a terrific welcoming ?

millymouge Times have changed. All we ever had as children was a week away in a gust house. My father had an Austen and it was very cramped. We always begged him to extend the holiday by a day...he always replied..."all good things come to and end" (for yet a further 12 months.

cornergran you are doing your very best. The grandchildren will consider themselves well blest to have you to themselves. Boy! Can't small children pack away a feast and still feel peckish.

Guest house...not gust house. The lady who owned it would bang a gong at mealtimes. It was in Bournemouth. We went for long walks after supper through the Chines. Still managed a candy floss before going to bed. They were good times.

Sorry I haven't been back,I have been on the proverbial tenterhooks since DD texted me to say she saw GP this morning who was referring littlest fella to a paediatrician because of concern over his poor weight gains and she was on her way over to the hospital right then. I eventually heard back about half an hour ago and he has been thoroughly checked over. The consensus seems to be a bit of reflux aggravated by a floppy larynx ( me neither) which they knew about and which he should grow out of. No medication at present, but a watching brief. I have felt quite sick because the scenario of my poorly baby 43 years ago (who lived for only 4 weeks) is never far below the surface and littlest fella is such a sweet little baby. DD and SIL had their share of nightmare 2 years ago and, well, if you are a worrier there is not much you can do about it!
Who says you ever stop worrying about the wee ones!!
So trying to relax now, but itching to get down there, however I don't know if DH is up to being left for a day Dead grumpy as he is due to have his ears syringes on Monday and he is as deaf as the proverbial post which makes communication well nigh impossible.
Might go and eat worms.

It is in hand now * Daphne* and everyone will be keeping a close eye on him. That isn't going to stop you worrying of course. I will join you in worm eating my H has told me he doesn't need anyone to stay and look after him when I am in hospital as he is quite capable of taking care of himself thank you.
Oh yes, well why am I running round after him like a blue-a....d fly?
I am quite tempted to take him at his word and tell the family only to come when he sends out alarm bells. I am too nice to do it but I certainly feel like it. He shows a very different face to me to the one he shows to other people.

DaphneB Of course you'll be feeling jittery. We all would. It would certainly put your mind at rest if you could take a day to visit the little family. Cuddling the wee one is the tonic that I prescribe for you. Do you have a close neighbour who would sit in with your husband? If not, how about a taxi? I understand that taxis are costly and such a mode of transport is out of the question. BUT, if it means that both you and your husband can visit together...it would be a weight off your mind. It's at times like this that living closer to family pays dividends. Alas, we're 600 miles apart. On the other hand, I could always make the journey alone. MacS is very capable of looking after himself.

annsixty Your husband's comment must have made your emotions reach fever pitch. Bloody wotsit...of course he needs help. You've had a chat with the locum GP? I'm afraid that I'm beginning to lose patience with your husband and I really would rather hear that he's come to his senses at long last Please return to us soon with more positive news.

ann I'm sure you could cheerfully throttle him sometimes, but if he's anything like my dad was, he will never ask for help.
Will he forget that conversation if you don't mention it for a while?

No my phone appt isn't until next Monday. I feel very undervalued and unappreciated along with other emotions I don't really understand. As my D said this morning he isn't going to change in any way now and she feels he has to get worse actually before I can take some positive steps because while he is as he is he isn't going to accept that he, and certainly me, needs some help.

Oh annsixty how about a "trial run" of a day out somewhere? You may not feel up to doing much until your medical issues have all been addressed, but even if you sit in a garden centre with (or without) a friend it might make him appreciate you more . I know all pigs fuelled and ready for take-off!! There would of course be total chaos at home when you get back, but you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs.
It is hard being taken for granted isn't it? We do what we do. But it would be nice to know it is noticed.
Going back to your telephone appointment, I think the advantage of a home visit might have been that your actual situation could be seen, it is very hard to tell it like it is without feeling we are moaning or even exaggerating. At the risk of an "egg sucking tutorial", could I suggest that over the next few days you make some notes in advance, that would keep you focused and perhaps make you less likely to play down your situation.
I didn't realise how much time I do spend on DH until DD and DGS were here and I was knackered being kept on the go.
I will somehow organise a visit to DD and DGS. I don't think DH would enjoy the journey,or be comfortable there, his back is giving him trouble (more moans) and he would still expect me to dance attendance cater for his every need.

Daphne I was saddened to read part of your post st 16.04. It makes your present concerns about Flynn all the more understandable. I can manage to get anxious with little provocation. I get anxious before things happen, when they actually then don't. If you see what I mean. I'm sure Flynn will be fine and it's a minor blip. Doesn't stop you worrying though. Oh that repeating things for the third time drives me potty. The hearing aid is somewhere, but never in the ear. I have been out three consecutive days this week, but there are written instructions of what do do if the severe shivering starts, I forget the word for it. DH can potter about and do things but I worry that he might fall, and then not be able to get up again. I'd say go on your own, now that you know the journey by car. Keep your mobile on. Leave DH emergency instructions. Leave his some food. Go and see DD and Flynn and enjoy that cuddle. You'll then feel so much better !

Annsixty, yes do go out for a few hours if it's safe to do so. I remember you got locked out one evening so is there some way you could override thst happening? I think a few hours whether it be a garden centre tea room, or the local park watching the ducks or the kids playing would be a nice break. And if it works, do it again.

All good advice for our DaphneB (sorry, I should have realised that you cannot do the entire journey by taxi) and annsixty I raise my hat to you and all those Granspals who are run ragged not merely for a day but for weeks on end. I am fearful for your physical and mental wellbeing.

Before I log off...a wee tale to share with Rory fans. MacS was tiddling with stuff in the garden. When he walked into the sitting room, Rory was stretched out on the television table. Guess who was asleep in his chair? Yep! Little madam awoke with a start, saw MacS and flew passed him like a bat out of hell. MacS's face was a picture to behold.

Daphne - hope you get good news about your little grandson. We never stop worrying about them.

I was sorting out some photos to use as the background on my new PC (second one in 18 months but after I mentioned the Sale of Goods Act a few times to Amazon I got most of my money back), when I realised how old some of my clothes are. Photos from 3 or 4 years ago and I am still wearing the same clothes. These are not 'best' clothes but smart/casual clothes. Note to myself to wear my newer clothes more often and perhaps some (previously) smart clothes could be worn at work (engineering workshop so nothing nice is worn to work).

I have been lurking a bit lately as the arthritis in my fingers is very painful when I type but others here have more serious problems. Though if there is going to be a general day out leaving husbands behind can I please join in

Can understand your frustrations and the upset ann. If there is any way you can get out for a day, or half a day, please do, it's got to help. If your husband will have already forgotten he said he did t need any support then I suggest you also forget he said it. I hope there can be support for you, it's certainly needed and deserved. Your worry about your grandson is completely understandable daphne, the worry we have for our children just carries on down the generations. Here's hoping the visit can be managed, it would make it so much easier to go and see for yourself. Our littlest one was very poorly initially and I was a jelly until he stabilised and began to thrive. Stay safe everyone.

I have been on a clearing cupboards day and I found a box of photographs from clearing my mothers home. I thought those who know the story of my first GC may be interested in these .
She was a few weeks old in the first , she had her first op at 13 weeks so before that
The second was a year ago when she had had her 5 th op and this was about a week or two later. She still has the black eyes. This was along hard time for us all but e
We are very very proud of her and very protective.

Wonderful that all has turned out well annsixty , what a lovely girl your DGD is and brave too! A speech therapist friend who used to work at Queen Mary's hospital Roehampton used to keep a stock of "before" and "after" pictures for new Mums and Dads of babies born with cleft palates (I am assuming that is right?) to show them that it not an insuperable problem if they needed that reassurance. Many did not need it, as of course their baby is beautiful, but other family members often found it helpful.

You must be very proud of your granddaughter ann, rightly so, beautiful baby and beautiful young woman.

She's been through a lot and come out so well on the other side. Congratulations on your lovely granddaughter. And for sharing her pictures, and her story, with us.

annsixty Your granddaughter is beautiful. My, hasn't she been through a very tough time. To have surgery at 13 weeks must have been an awful time for all the family. She must have been a tough cookie. Thank you for sharing her story. It is humbling. It is also joyful.

Tizliz As a child we had best clothes and party clothes and everyday clothes. My wardrobe bears testament to the fact that I haven't changed one iota. Stuff for best remains almost unworn. Party clothes do not get to come out and go out more than once a year. The rest...well worn...much loved...perfectly acceptable.

Tizliz Arthritis is a buggeration. You have my sympathy and a gentle hug.

MacSporran and I were discussing our wish to donate organs (when the time is right) and he added that he'd like to think that we could end up in the same body. That way, we'd be together for a little longer. I'm so soppy. It brought a tear to my eye.

soop glad you mention the 'gentle'. I try and avoid shaking hands with people as it can be so painful.

Is MacSporran always that sweet, or did he want something

soop I did say months ago that little madam would soon have her paws under the table! In this case, she was extremely comfortable. By C*******s she will be one of the family and MacSporran will not want her going outside as it is too cold!.

I was sent a brochure yesterday to order a diary and C*******s cards! Far too early I would have thought.

annsixty she is a beautiful little girl and as others have said, has been through such a lot in such a short space of time.

Daphne I do hope that you hopped in the car today and visited that little man. Hopefully he is okay. Grace and DH could have a few peaceful hours together!

Tizliz He's a one off. I cannot tell you how happy he has made me.

Charleyg The latest on the Bracken saga. MacS went into the utility room (where the cats sit together) he saw Rory on the mat. No sign of Bracken so he went to the freezer...then he heard a sound and looked around. B had jumped to the floor from the second shelf of what I call my airing cupboard (only it doesn't have doors). I now need to wash a folded sheet all over again.
