I think my sons marriage is on the rocks and I don't know what to do. Or do I just keep out of it

Your role is to be there for him afterwards.

Be very careful what you say as things can come back to bite you
Support him but don't take sides. You can help pick up the pieces later if it comes to that.
I've been there so sympathise, bon courage.

Don't take sides. Are there any children involved?

Our neighbour's husband left her (with three small children). The mother in law is still round at her ex DIL's house childminding on a regular basis. This grandmother has managed to stay friends with both her son and his ex.

Christinefrance is absolutely right. Help as much as you can but don't take one side or the other however much you want to, especially if there are children involved. Try to remain on good terms with your daughter-in-law. This happened to our son 6 years ago and we have remained on reasonable terms with exDIL which has made life so much easier for us all.

Definitely don't take sides. Troubled marriages can repair themselves and where would that leave you if you've bad mouthed your DIL. Also, if there are children, she'll more than likely have custody and you'll still want to see them.

Just listen and be there.

Sorry to hear this. Its such a difficult thing. Sitting on the fence can feel counterintuitive when you just want to support your son. However, as the others have said its imports to maintain relations with DiL too. Who knows, it may all blow over. I do hope so. Good luck.

Don't say anything that might come back at you later. My DD and her husband were on the verge of splitting and it came to nothing. Just be careful. I hope it works out.
