Things we don't see anymore

I suppose the biggest difference between 'then' and 'now' is that then we had 'never had it so good' and nobody had any money and there was nothing to buy and now we live in an era of 'austerity' which is characterised by unimaginable plenty and splurging.

Peanut Treets. (Now M&Ms in various colours instead of just brown).

VHS and Betamax videos.

Cameras with film.

Metal dustbins kept at the back of the house.

Home knitted cardies and jumpers and home sewn clothes.

School summer uniforms.

Hats.

Tinny transistor radios.

Roads that were never shut for sporting events and repairs but left free for traffic.

Jamboree bags.

a lot of these are still around, I have bottle of cherry B in the fridge,but my vote goes to rag & bone men, could do with one as we have a load of stuff you can only take to the tip & neither of us drive

We used to have Kunzel cakes for tea at my Nan's. When I included them in a pestilence piece about my grandmother on a workshop I found most people had never heard of them, when the workshop leader mentioned them at home her partner had very fond memories of eating them. Think I'd find them far too sweet and sickly now!

Wraparound pinnies are still a fashion must have in rural France, a pair of old cut down wellies completes the look!

We had Beryl the Milk in a horse and cart, milk churns at the back. Also Mr. Porlock who delivered fruit and veg using a horse and cart.

LullyDully - your post brings back memories which makes me shiver in retrospect. If I was late for work when I was in my teens I used to jump off the bus at a corner to save time.

On another occasion when I was a child, the school bus was so crowded that I was standing downstairs next to the platform clinging on to the child in front of me.

The bus stopped suddenly and I fell onto the platform. My daps fell into the road but I managed to save myself.

Being able to run and jump on a bus. Also jumping off if it is stuck in traffic. ( not agile anymore however)

Monica the milk lady. She used to come in a black van and we'd go out with our jugs for the milk - straight from the farm. I can remember the smell of the milk

the knife / shears sharpener man, the paraffin man, the tally man. the rent man.

Sterilised milk. Sweet tobacco and sweet cigarettes. Barley Sugar sticks and Palm toffee bars.

gj yes Curly Wurlys are still around and you can get them in packs of 5 from most supermarkets for about a pound. Firm favourite of Slimming world members!

Granny 2016, I had one of those awful knitted swimsuits when I was about 7, when they got wet they dropped alarmingly, showed an embarrassing amount of body!

We used Camp coffee in the canteen where I worked, it was vile!
