I've made a faux pas!

I really wouldn't worry about him being bullied at school over whatever name they eventually chose Grannyben. My sister really wanted to call her eldest Harrison, but her MIL begged and pleased with her not to, saying he would be bullied at school. She eventually relented. By the time he got to school, there were so many children of all nationalities with unusual names (including a Chinese girl called Wai Ting!) - that nobody would have batted an eyelid at Harrison!

My DC obviously do not like their names, as soon as they could talk they shortened them. GC have traditional names but eldest has changed her name slightly and likes to be referred to by that name. Not happening with Grandma, she gets her full Sunday name.

I tried to choose names that couldn't be shortened, however their friends have always had different ideas!

I still love the names we chose for our C and fortunately so do they. My youngest GS is named after his dad( my son) so that is a plus. I also like my own name but not keen on DH's.

The twin grandsons of one of our friends were called Darius and Hector, and they seemed to fit them like a glove somehow. I loved both names - very classical. I wanted GS to be Alexander! He isn't.

I now don't like either of the two girl's names we'd chosen for DC3. Thank goodness he was our DS1!

I do like Ezra, though

A friend called her daughter Hazel . When she told her dad his remark was " Just as well could have called her gooseberry "

Grannyben I think Ezra is more common in the US. I first came across it in an Anne Tyler novel - Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant

grannyben perhaps Ezra is popular now because of the singer George Ezra. I like it too.

BTW, you have now got your daughter's name and other identifiable info on this public forum, just now it ends up on the GN Face Fussbook page or in an article in the Daily Wail! Beware.

When I told my mum what we had chosen for my daughters name she said "Oh dear I had an aunt called that and I did not like her at all."
That name was an very much older version of one quite popular during the mid 90s.

galen Merryn and Elowen are terrific names! Our eldest DGS has an unusual name but it was a vast improvement on what they wanted to call him. We weren't that keen at first but he's grown into it.

I heard of someone whose daughter called her baby Otis.

I think I'd have done my best to pretend I was OK with it - and then gone away and cried for the poor little bubba.
Thank heavens my dd has given her two lovely names that aren't weird or made up or too cutesy-cutesy, and that aren't done to death at the moment and would date them horribly later.

Haha, my DD (mum to be of Ezra) is called Megan

I had to marshal all my tact and diplomacy when my neighbours told me they had called their new baby Megan. I managed to say "What a lovely name" instead of "Why have you called her after a Border Collie?"

All my babies had names before they were born that changed when they arrived. You never know what might happen. I don't think bullying because of a name is as common as it used to be, maybe because there are so many unusual names now.

I've just googled it. He's called Ezra Fitz and he has a dog called Maggie. We have a dog called Maggie! Perhaps it's meant to be

My granddaughter wanted to name her dog Ezra. Apparently it's the name of a character in a popular teen TV series, so is getting very usual now.
We gave our youngest a Biblical name which was extremely unusual. Within a couple of years it was very common (in both senses) after featuring in a soap opera!

I suggested Jude!

Loves!!! His brothers are called Jude and Zephaniah and his sister is Ruth. All Biblical but they were chosen for being unusual.

Grannyben, my DD has a three year old of that name. She lives all the old names, he has an unusual middle name too, Dante! He is the most adorable little boy. "What's in a name".
