YORKSHIRE DAY TODAY

I'm a Yorkshire lass in France and still miss God's own county. Definitely no Humberside or South Yorkshire, it's Ridings all the way. I heard on the news they have extended Yorkshire National Park into Cumbria and Westmoreland. Go tykes go.

I am a Yorkshire woman in Cornwall and for the last few years I have had the idea of gathering all our acquaintances with Yorkshire connections for a YD barbecue. Thank goodness I didn't get round to it (again) this year as the day started damp and got worse. Maybe next year. Happily days to those of you who celebrated in the north, where I believe you had good weather.

I was born and bred in the West Riding, and would never say South Yorkshire (no such place). I'm a tyke through and through.

Dad sometimes used that as well. Only word he wouldn't use was 'Humberside'- "No such place!!"he insisted.

Just about to set off for home after spending a few days in Yorkshire. Loved it! Chatty friendly people, excellent food and service, clean comfortable hotels and lots to see. Very impressed with Hepworth in Wakefield and Media Museum in Bradford.

I always write Hull, East Yorkshire, as it was when I was growing up there, Trisher.

I only just qualify as well- Hull- and for a bit they tried to make it Humberside. My dad steadfastly refused to use the word and always gave his address as 'Hull, Yorkshire.' A proud Yorkshireman who stuck to his guns!

I am a very proud Tyke, although there are some who say that Sheffielders only barely qualify! We don't take any notice of them - we have Yorkshire imprinted in our core like a stick of rock! God bless the White Rose!

Yes kitty you are quite right - it was yesterday! But the sentiment is the same - peace and goodwill to all (especially Tykes!)

As they say, "You can always tell a Yorkshireman, but you can't tell him much!"
