Daphne that little chap is as somebody said, raring to go and when you take the photo, his eyes are so alert. He is a bright young man.

I am amazed that Ocado let you down so badly- I am sure that they will attempt to make up with vouchers or whatever but it will be well after the event.

N&G I loved the photos- cheeky grins on the boys faces. They are so lucky to to have grandparents who care.

The rain was not heavy here yesterday evening, amazing because I do not live a million miles away from the M25 and the M1 and Daphne experienced exceptionally heavy weather. . Tara was fairly wet when she bothered to show up.

It is dull here today and appreciably colder.

Lovely photos n&g, happy children. If there is a way for folk to share dry weather and sunshine sure would appreciate some, grey and horrid here, it's been tipping down. We're also Casualty watchers here, various televised sporting events permitting. Charley is still there after various short breaks. Duffy is back if you remember her. Not filmed in Bristol now which makes the exterior shots different but it's still going. Some would say for better, others for worse . Your beach party sounds great, fan will be at the ready.

We're beginning a major clearing session today in preparation for some minor building works. Lots to empty and re-locate. It will all be a bit squashed for a while. Best guess is two months before we're done, decorated and extra seating acquired. Hope no more than two or the not to be spoken of word will be here. Patience is a virtue, if anyone could send some of that it would also be well received. . Soon to be a frown I suspect!!

Morning !!

Thought I'd start the day off with a picture of my 3 little grandsons, from yesterday. They went to the fair and the beach ( even though the weather wasn't the best !) You can see the difference between saying 'smile ' to the boys and the girls ( one of whom was a friends daughter).

Yes soop I think my daughter was very lucky but she just doesn't feel it at the moment. The swelling is still bad and I suppose getting it poked every day isn't helping. Poor soul x

Ann glad you're making real progress but sorry to hear you've found you're living with Grumpy!! He's obviously been living a happy and comfortable life at your cost. You're right, a new strategy sounds an excellent idea !

Oh Charley that brings back memories...I watched Casualty with my Mum on many occasions. I can't think why I just stopped watching...is Charlie still in it?

Daphne Flynn is looking like a very contented little chap. Your magic obviously works. I'm disappointed to hear about the Ocado failure. I have always rated them highly . Complain long and loud..... they need to step up to the plate with this failure to deliver.

We had limited rain in our part of Essex, but it needs to get it out of the way. Warning : There will be no rain next weekend as I am throwing a Beach Party in the garden !!! So get your fan's out ladies, stock up on magnums...its going to be beautiful :-)

I can't remember the last time but this afternoon and evening we have had rain at last in Essex. Went on for about 4 hours quite heavily, so I shall now be able to do some gardening. Smells lovely and fresh outside now.

Flynn really is a super-baby. Can't remember which of my GSs wouldn't stand up on our laps and we wondered if his legs were all right! (they were and are) I can see there won't be any such concern about Flynn - he's raring to go!

This year I dipped my toe in the private tutoring pond and today received a 'thank you' card from a dyslexic student who, at his third attempt has passed GCSE English with a C which is all he needed; my other GCSE candidate has also got the results he wanted. Whew! I was a bit out of practice!

Could people who live anywhere near motorways please, pretty please, stop rain dancing?
"Stair rodding" on the M 25 and M 1 as I drove back from London this afternoon / evening after delivering DD and DGS back to Walthamstow.
Flynn was an angel going down, asleep within 5 minutes of leaving the house and slept for the full 11/2 hours the journey took me! I was driving exceedingly smoothly too , of course - oh the responsibility.
SIL isn't due back from NY until tomorrow and DD is due into work at the Barbican as she had a play (Faustus) opening on Thursday, so I thought it would be useful to put in an Internet shop order for her to be delivered this evening. If you have seen
my AIBU thread you will see that was a dead loss. Ocado "lost" half her order , basically all the stores, bread, muesli, almond and soya milk, energy bars for when she is at the theatre, bread, rolls etc etc etc. She actually doesn't have anything for breakfast! And with Flynn off to sleep she can't exactly go off and do a supermarket shop . The cupboards are actually nearly bare, largely because they haven't been home for 4 weeks, in France for 3 weeks, then she came here for a week.. The earliest Ocado could offer is Monday so I fear they may have lost a fan and be losing a customer. I could easily have popped to a supermarket yesterday afternoon and loaded up the car for her, so I feel cross at Ocado, but also cross because it was my idea.

It's been falling down here. I gave up on the rain dance charleygirl and co-opted two granddaughters who obviously have more powers than I. The torrents are now guaranteed . Like the sound of your soon to be new t.v.system, well worth waiting for. In the meantime feet up in the sitting room. That's a good supplier.

Agree with you soop, generally we are quicker to criticise than praise. Would wonder why?

ann your situation reminds me so much of a neighbour's. Her husband has dementia and will now only 'allow' her to go out if she is food shopping. He refuses to leave their home and her life has become totally controlled. Even the odd cup of coffee here is a minefield. Please dont let that happen to you. I dont have a magic answer for you, other than to get all the professional help and advice you can and be honest when you describe your reality. I think so many people minimise their struggles.

n&g, what a lovely image and a special memory. Long may that relationship last. Your daughter is having a truly horrid time, hope there is major progress soon.

Our friend has gone on her way, we did enjoy her company, my difficulty with continual social contact really isn't her fault! The builders arrive on Monday, at least I won't have to chat to them all day

Charleyg You should see Rory daintily stepping through a puddle. He looks almost balletic. He then makes an awful fuss of shaking the back paws dry. Bless him. He's waiting patiently for his special meal of the day. after which, he'll clean his whiskers thoroughly. Then...off he'll go to meet with Bracken.

soop I always go out of my way to thank people for good service and they leave the house or I leave the shop and they are very pleased with themselves. It is so easy to be critical of work done.

Charleyg That sounds like one smart TV man. Better to wait a wee bit longer and get a more reliable set. Will you be greeting the delivery man with a home baked and a mighty wide ...such pleasantries are in short supply these days. It seems to me (could be wrong) that thank you for good service of any kind is much appreciated.
When I returned from day surgery at the NVH, I wrote an appreciative letter. Just to say that, in spite of cutbacks and so on, I was treated very well throughout the entire procedure. Received a pleasing response. Told that the letter had been read by the staff on the ward.

I fear that there is a conspiracy- there still has not been any rain here. For medical reasons I cannot really ask cornergran to do the rain dance again on my behalf. I have a feeling she was rubbish at it because it did not work.

The fellow bringing my new TV rang to say that he has tested my set (that would not happen at "C***ys") and the SMART part of it was not working. I will discuss it with him on Monday but I think I will choose another make.

I will not be watching Casualty in bed tonight but I am so pleased that the service is as I expected with this small chain of shops. I am in no great rush to get the TV.

ann I think it is good H has had a wake up call that you can no longer run around after him 24/7. I understand that he will not remember a word you say 5 minutes later but you also have to have a life and being out of the house for 2 hours is not exactly the entire weekend. Could you not involve your family more to share the burden? us lot is/are here if you want anybody to shout at!!!

soop, you're confusing ann and anno. I am not, nowadays, encumbered with a husband. You are right, she does deserve 'me' time. Perhaps I have far too much! And it's still raining. I don't want to have to drive a quarter of a mile to get some essentials, but like a cat, I don't like getting my feet wet.

anno It's a lengthy learning curve that you are needing to master. It's so true, my late father was always inclined to be bossy. As he aged, he became bombastic, overbearing and, sometimes, down-right nasty with it. He didn't understand that it was he who needed to put others first. I sympathise with you. You must not permit your husband to turn your home into a prison. No way! You deserve as much "me time" as is reasonable. Talk things over with your GP. I feel cross and frustrated on your behalf.

I have only had two pets, and when my beloved cat had to be put to sleep in 1997!! I couldn't face up to that again and it is my loss I know.
I am making good progress although I put a pair of " proper" trousers on this morning and they would hardly go past my knee as it is so swollen, I was rather disappointed.
A friend fetched me to her house for coffee, I was out for just under two hours, just slightly over my usual "time out". I got a very hostile reception, I had been out so long H thought I had had an accident, he was very annoyed, it was past his lunchtime.
I was very cross, very upset and now need a new strategy to deal with him.
He has not dealt with his cosy world of me waiting on him hand and foot being disrupted. He is going to have to deal with it as my eyes have been well and truly opened.
I had a friend many years ago whose D and SiL were both GPs and we discussed how getting old magnified traits that people had all their lives and how unacceptable those traits could become. I am recalling all that now and realising just how self centred my H has always been.
Quite an admission for me there but I have got it off my chest and I hope I am going to be able to deal with it without it clouding my life.

NanaandGrampy Your poorly daughter is indeed a hero. The photo of the boys having the best of treats, must make her smile. It has me.
When I came out of hospital having had Septicaemia, a local nurse changed my thumb dressing daily. She had to rid the sight of the infection of dead, black skin. Had the infection reached the lymph system under my armpit (and the antibiotics not worked) we were told that amputation was a consideration. In retrospect, all very scary.

I'm feeling very excited. Next weekend we are to have our annual family meet-up in Glasgow. Sadly, Torben may not be joining us. My son has business to attend to in Glasgow on the Mon and Tues. He has said that, the next time he gets the opportunity, he'll bring Torben to see us. I understand the fact that grown-ups have to earn a living. Fitting in a visit in work-time is not a straightforward matter with children being back at school.

It isn't a bad day, weather-wise. We've enjoyed a stroll and were invited into the home of a couple who live "along the lane" for coffee and chocolate biscuits. We spent a delightful hour in their company. Had plenty to catch up with. corner the hour was spent well. Neither of us do such a thing on a regular basis. It takes all sorts...

number if our pal didn't have mobility problems and if her husband still lived at home, a new smaller breed of dog would be great company for her. Alas, we feel that she will not recoup from this latest sadness. Susie had been ill with cancer for a long time. She kept rallying until just the other day, when she collapsed.

It's raining here in Cheshire just when I thought it might be safe to put the washing out. Never mind - the forecast for next week is hot again. I do hope that includes Cheshire. My cousin, who had lunch with me just last Tuesday, has gone home to Tallahassee which has been hit hard by the hurricane and I dread to think what devastation she is likely to find when she arrives. Perhaps I should appreciate our climate more.

I feel so sorry for your poor daughter, it must be agony if she is crying at the very thought of treatment. At least it is getting better.

The sun is out at present but heavy rain is forecast later today. I may be in bed by then watching my new singing and dancing TV, provided I can get Wifi connection. Tara woke me this morning by chasing a small box around my bedroom-late last night I thought there was a mouse because she was running around like something possessed in the dark. I switched on lights when I went to the loo in case I walked on a squishy object.

Yes Charley the District nurse has been coming to repack the wound and yesterday she had a check-up at the hospital. Its painful getting it redone and the poor girl admits now that if someone says 'Lets repack this' she cries. This is my stoic daughter who takes everything in her stride so its an indication of how painful this is.

Sorry to hear about the fly tipping and such . I have zero tolerance now with that sort of thing and Grampy often says I'm going to get a punch on the nose one of these day

I'm so sorry to hear of your friends loss soop it just must feel like another thing for her in a lot of bad things. Its the company as much as anything .I can't think of anything that you can say just being her friend is probably the best thing.

My poorly daughter is my hero today. Jackson , our youngest daughters 4 year old adores our oldest daughters 6 year old son Stevie. If Stevie suggested jumping off a cliff, Jackson would merely ask which one.

When they were all here for her birthday Jackson was distraught that he had to go home so a sleepover was suggested. So despite her poorly leg , we dropped him off yesterday and a high old time has been had by all. Luckily her husband and daughter have helped with the little ones but I'm attaching a picture she sent me .

Jacksons sheer look of pleasure at simply being with his hero is something I hope lasts forever .

There were 4 bags to start with and I could have coped, using my bin and one of my neighbour's bins. When another two arrived, I decided to report it. We are the only two who pay here for grass removal, I share with my immediate neighbour and there are 16 houses and 2 flats. I do not think it came from this mews- maybe it is just as well I do not know or I may not have been responsible for my actions.

I have treated myself to a new bedroom TV, I also bought a DVD player and they are arriving tomorrow pm. Being technologically challenged I chose this company because I knew that they delivered and set up. At this rate I can stay in bed all day if there was something half decent to watch. It is an early birthday and Ch***** present to myself.
