Soop's Friendly Kitcheners and pets...

Not exactly a kitchen virgin DB have sought advice about a cat I rescued knowing soop as a 'cat person' and very helpful she was too.

Sadly it will be many weeks before I'm able to use my arms again...this little forefinger is being over used too.

With any luck soop should be recovering on the ward. It will be so good for her to get back home tonight- there is nothing like one's own house and bed.

Thank you all for commiserations -I know you have all "been there, done that" with NHS buggerations and also for your kind words Anya, (a "newbie" in the Kitchen?) I hope you too are feeling better by now.

All my sympathies are with our poor, broken Grans - "this too shall pass" as I think it was soop said.You will all mend and each day should be one day nearer that. Sending - already tastefully arranged - to you all.

Along with all her Granspals I have been thinking of soop this morning and hoping that she and MacS didn't get too lost en route yesterday, that they managed at least 40 winks each in the hotel and that the medics decide they can help sort out the under-carriage problems once and for all. Two furry friends will be waiting anxiously for their return!

Oh dear what a lot of crocks we are.
Anya a few years ago I just chipped a bone in each wrist and the pain was dreadful so I don't want to think what having them broken must be like. I was told it was the soft tissue damage that caused the pain.
To everyone else keep your collective chins up, we will get better,repeat, we will get better.

Sorry about all your difficulties with the hospital Daphne it is really the last thing you need, when you do not feel well in the first place. Let us hope these appointments are all trouble free. A relief to see you here Ann60 and know you are getting a little better.
Since the other half has been told not to drive, we have now made definite arrangements with dial-a-ride to get us to and from the hospital for his next appointments, fortunately two on the same day! Something to look forward to.

annsixty the only position I could sleep in after surgery was on my right side, my right knee having been replaced. It took yonks before I could lie on my left side with any degree of comfort.

I agree, the trips to the loo during the night are a total pain but I do not have a solution for that. You are so fortunate that pain is not a major feature- that is a minor miracle. The most important thing is to get the knee bending asap. That was the only thing I could do relatively easily.

Keep the leg elevated when sitting down and have the inevitable bag of peas at the ready to help with the swelling.

Anya I have no bright ideas re sleeping at night with 2 broken arms. That is horrendous.

Early awake for me too, but no reason other than there's an odd noise outside I'm trying to identify and I got to thinking about soop and sending her good wishes. Anya and Ann you must both be so uncomfortable, hope each day sees you a little more comfortable. to all who have a challenging day ahead.

I do hope soop is doing ok. Wanted to send gentle hugs to all those of you with broken bits. Daphne, I am so sorry to hear about your DH's appts. That is miserable, I am sure they cant help the staff issue, but it is a real pain for the patients. Hope it is all sorted soon xx

I must have missed that about you Ann60 and I'm pleased to hear days are better. I know what you mean about the nights. I can't sleep either as there's no comfortable position with both arms broken. Hang on to the thought that things will mend and life will get easier.

Well DB what can I say? So sad that your DH has had yet another set back especially at this time,

Very early I know but I was thinking of soop and her early start and wishing her well for today. At this time last week I was 12 hours post op and glad it was over. I can't believe it is now a week. Days are better but nights still challenging.
The pain is not bad at all but getting up 3/4 tims for the loo is daunting as the knee is very swollen and very stiff.
Onwards is the only way. One more setback DB thinking of you both.

I hope that soop is enjoying a hopefully relaxing supper before the investigations start tomorrow. With luck she will be home mid evening. Rory will be pleased to see her. Bracken will have taken to the woods.

Daphne I'm so sorry that your poor dh has to wait until Friday. I'm sure they can't help the staffing problems but it's so hard to be on the receiving end. I hope he's ok and you aren't too frazzled

Daphne so sorry to hear about your DH and also how you feel. That's the one drawback with virtual friends the best we can do is virtual cakes and support ?

It would be lovely to be able to do something more tangible .

Life has subsided back to normal here after our open day , not a bad thing. We have discussed everything and have made a conscious decision not to fret about it but leave it to fate.

Now....I have a chunk slice or artic role to keep my happy thoughts up.....want some? ????

Hello lisalou, a big welcome from me, although I still feel a newbie here it's a comfortable place to be. Chocolate cake is always a winner with me. So sorry for you and your husband Daphne, I sort of think our NHS is wonderful when it works, but it can make life so hard when it doesn't. Fingers crossed for sufficient staff for the next visit. I'm hoping soop's journey has gone well, it was kind of her to set us up with a new kitchen. I'm back to my normal now. Not so spaced out so will try to drop in more regularly. Need a respite from family problems that are beyond Mum and Dad to fix. No matter how big they are don't we still worry?

Oh Daphne don't know what to say other than to provide a big box of tissues, a shoulder to cry on and lots of ((huggs)). Life is hard when you are suffering but I think many times it is harder to watch someone you love suffer and trying to be brave. The NHS should realise how people gear themselves up for operations or procedures etc. Being let down like this is so dissapointing. We are all thinking of you both, wish we could be on hand to cheer you up.

Daphne, as they say in our homeland, 'It's a richt scunner'. Just unload here and we'll try to lift your spirits.

I find it hard to get cross with them as they have been so helpful and flexible up to now. I think it is staffing, Friday's infusion was postponed because the unit had to close on account of staff shortages (2 nurses run it, 1 was on leave and the other ill) and I am assuming the same applies today. The iron infusion wouldn't have counted as an emergency and perhaps there are more urgent needs. By Thursday/Friday, the blood transfusion probably will though and a whole week will have been lost because DH is too weak to get out.
Just not having much luck one way or another. If we had known this, DH would have accepted the 1 unit blood "top up" offered on Friday but to have 3 different cannulas in about as many days was not a good prospect as his veins are in a bad way as it is. Medics describe them as "fugitive" which I understand means they shrink up and hide when they see a needle. His arms are regularly black and blue from blood tests/ transfusions / infusions/IV antib's

Oh Daphne I am so sorry to hear this. Any wonderful excuse given? I am well aware how much he needs this and Thursday is a lifetime away when one is not well. Words fail me because I think that it is bordering on callous. How would he cope if you were not there to supply food, teas, etc. I am so,so sorry.

Ouchy!! Cellulitis is very nasty I believe and it is no comfort when people confuse it with the "cosmetic"cellulite is it? But the fear of amputation is a sobering one.

Oh I could spit!! Or weep, or whatever. DH has exhausted himself getting showered , dressed etc and ready to leave for the hospital for his iron infusion and they HAVE JUST RUNG TO POSTPONE IT UNTIL THURSDAY. (With the blood transfusion he will certainly need on Friday, given that he was close to having one last Friday.) He can barely walk the length of his own shadow and I am actually sniffling as I write but have to keep strong for him as I can see how disappointed he is.

Tizliz My knee is not ready to be operated on yet- the cause of the celluitis has to be found and the gross swelling of my ankle has to be sorted. It is caused by the internal fixation following a # ankle. I am mindful that if the knee was operated on I could end up with a mid thigh amputation in under a year- not quite what I had in mind!

Apart from that, the weather here is gorgeous yet again. No sign of rain and it is rare that I want to see any!

Daphne are you okay? Grace not giving you enough hugs and kisses because she is fast asleep? She needs to spend a day with Tara who would exhaust her within 30 minutes.
